There comes a brief interlude in every everygirl’s December when the magic of the final month is interrupted by the fear of partywear and festive occasion dressing. Whilst some are all for a knees-up with unlimited rounds of Prosecco and opportunities with which to embarrass oneself, others are all too well inclined to recline with unlimited rounds of tea and Netflix marathons. I fall somewhere in the middle of the spectrum: give me all of the Prosecco, but my gosh am I inexperienced when it comes to outfits to wear when going out-out.
Aside from everybody’s default look – the jeans and a ‘nice top’ – I always vow that Christmas is when I’ll crack out a dress. This year I’ve had a handful of dates in the diary, from the cosy girls’ Friendmas to a work Christmas party and so I thought I’d share two ways to ease yourself into partywear for the everygirl.
The Plunge Skater Dress
December is the one month in the year that you can introduce a little sparkle to your outfit without it feeling too strange. I’m a strict jeans-and-a-knit girl throughout winter but even I fell prey to this darling skater dress from Boohoo.
Their party dress range is pretty incredible this season – and affordable too, for those of us who don’t *really* want to wear the same dress twice and risk missing out on a bonus photo opp 😉 Long-sleeved for a wintry fit with a plunge front and cute flared skirt, this dress looks extra sweet with sock boots for after-dinner Christmas drinks.
The Velvet Wrap Dress
One of my favourite trends this AW17 has got to be the penchant for velvet. Plush texture is what really gets me in the winter, whether it’s a fluffy knit or a cosy faux fur coat or, indeed, a cute teddy jacket. This velvet wrap dress from Boohoo made the cut for my work Christmas ‘do with a client. The wrap front, cinched with a sealed waist (no worries about popping out here!) and delicate bow, plus slim-fitting sleeves, made for the ideal look. I rarely wear figure-hugging pieces but this wrap dress might just have changed that up for me! Watch this space…
