It has been an absolute AGE since I sat down and penned a good ol’ outfit post. No deep thoughts, just documenting new-in wardrobe pieces. let’s go…
Firstly, a very happy International Women’s Day to you all! Let’s not touch upon the insanities that are probably warring over on Twitter, eh? I’ve mostly spent my day thus far eating a feminist breakfast, having a feminist debate… I totally kid. Every day is a day for positive activism in whatever way we see fit. I guess I wonder all the time whether I’m doing enough by not using my platforms to shout about such issues, but in the same sphere, I feel like I’m doing just about enough without alienating my wider audience who might just follow my channels for a little fashion-hued, love-tinted escapism. What are your thoughts on passive activism?
Onto the outfit! I picked up this almost-entirely new look in time for Lunar New Year last month as part of one of my personal favourite traditions. New clothes (and new hair!) symbolise a new start and who am I to say no to some ritual-fuelled shopping? I’ve been coveting this bird print pyjama shirt from Topshop for absolutely ages and was over the moon to get my hands on it. Made from lustrous satin with allover hummingbird prints, it’s a chic little number that I think looks best paired with some love-worn denim and a pointed toe flat. It’s a bit ‘showy’ though, so I think I’ll pick up a lace-trimmed bodysuit or cami to slip underneath and it’s probably worth noting that I sized down by one size in this and it is still huge. (I wear a UK8 and this is a UK6.)
I must also pay homage to my beloved Mansur Gavriel bucket bag that’s come out of hiding. I remarked to Harvey a week or more ago that ‘wasn’t it about time I switched out my spring/summer bags?’, and then the Beast from the East and Storm Emma hit and here was me with my springtime af bag selection. Nevertheless, this bag is one of my favourites and the Mini Mini is the perfect size for day-to-day. For convenience and to reduce damage to the frankly beautiful cobalt blue interior, I pop an Aesop canvas bag inside to house smaller things (lip balm, lipstick, keys and roller perfume), a cardholder and my bullet journal, and I’m good to go!
