My shopping habits these days are a total 180˚ turnaround from what they were like when I first started blogging. After all, I did have a student loan beckoning to be burned through by buying hoards of those £5 skater dresses from Primark, stacks of notebooks to write in twice and GOSH’s lipstick in ‘Darling’ (2009 bloggers, raise your hands). Once upon a time, I had two double wardrobes and three dressers full to the brim with clothes and today your girl survives with one rail and two baskets of clothing. I’m no capsule wardrobe girl, I just learned to define my style and to prioritise a tasty dinner over five dresses that I’ll wear once. Maybe twice.
My point is, these days I invest very sparingly into trends. I’ll spot one from afar and figure out how it’ll slot in best to my existing wardrobe. And my trend of the moment? Buttons! I am so here for button-through detailing on everything from cami tops to dresses, jumpsuits to midi skirts. Let me show you the cream of the crop on the high street, everything that’s quite literally cute as a button…
Button-through mini pinafore sundress by ASOS Design ∙ Linen button-through dress by Warehouse ∙ Linen mix button-through stripe midi dress by Boohoo ∙ Double-breasted button front cami top by New Look ∙ Straight ‘Lis’ jeans by Mango ∙ Striped top by Zara ∙ Button detail midi skirt by Miss Selfridge ∙ Broderie anglaise button skirt by Topshop ∙ Linen-look button up culotte jumpsuit by New Look ∙ Check button romper by Topshop ∙ Jumpsuit with button detail in check by ASOS Design
In pristine white with subtle contrast stitching, this pinafore sundress by ASOS Design is so adorable for weekend adventures, pub garden lunches and floral market mornings. I love the squared neck and those tie-up shoulders! Alternatively, this sunshine yellow dress from Warehouse will easily become your go-to statement piece for summer. The button-through falls only on the skirt which is great for those with a bigger bust than I. Just a touch daintier is this striped midi dress from Boohoo: the cami straps are oh so delicate and the beach hut-inspired pattern is perfect for seaside staycations and getting that ‘gram.

Not into dresses? This double-breasted cami top from New Look is a polished piece that adds a touch of tailoring goodness to any look — I’d pair this with denim culottes and cross front slides for a fresh take on the classic white-tee-and-jeans outfit. And talking of denim… these button front jeans are just right for a nostalgic feel. Take your style cue from Mango and wear them with Western boots and a pink belt. This striped top from Zara will bring understated elegance to any look, whether teamed with the coordinating trousers, with a little skirt or with a pair of jeans. I’m also totally into this midi skirt from Miss Selfridge, perfect for wearing with a knotted T-shirt and sandals to smarten up weekend ensembles. Or, this broderie anglaise version to lend a super feminine edge to your wardrobe.
Another way to easily tap into the trend is with a one-piece for no-fuss styling. This culotte jumpsuit from New Look has such a flattering relaxed cap sleeve cut and a self-tie at the waist. Play it up by fastening into a bow at the centre back, or switch the included belt out for a piece of velvet ribbon. This romper from Topshop is a more daring silhouette: try sizing up if you can to achieve a relaxed fit that looks super cute with a tee underneath. Lastly, this checked jumpsuit from ASOS will easily tick all of your style boxes for casual summer outings. Pair it with backless loafers (in tan, of course) and a straw bag.
