Welcome to Day 1 of my newest Intern Diaries series! As you may already know, I started my internship with Eyeko today. Like always, I was incredibly nervous as I made my merry way through the city and over to West London and, as always, I arrived 30 minutes early and had to awkwardly wander around the streets until I could comfortably make myself known in their lovely pink-and-white office. Oh, and I completely forgot to shoot my outfit today, hence the iconic blue-tinted webcam shot…
As soon as I got into the office, my first impressions were ‘OMG, isn’t that Ling?! And that was my first encounter with a blogger or YouTuber in the wild. Despite being a religious subscriber to her channel, I hadn’t even considered that she’d be in the office. The team is small, and we all fit into one little office where everybody bands together to get the work done.
First port of call: magazine cold calls. I’m not *great* on phones, but one of the key tasks was to call up magazine editors and enquire whether they’d heard of or tried our products. If so, they’d be added to a database for sample send-outs. Next was trawling through the email inbox and organising it: forwarding emails to the relevant colleagues, responding to emails about the current Sticker Competition, and noting down press requests.
Eyeko also have a pretty great blogger partnership programme, so I spent much of my afternoon packing products to be sent out to editors and bloggers. Super exciting stuff! Nina and Max – the founders – gave me free reign to try whichever of their current products that I wanted. So I went home incredibly happy with a bag of polishes to sample: so far, Chi Chi is my favourite.
