Happy Wednesday girls, and welcome to this week’s Ways to Wear post.
I skipped W2W last week, for a retro Wednesday Wants, and it all felt a bit alien to me, as I have no money to spend at all! I think I’ll be sticking to these for now…
This week’s installment features the classic blogger essential: a button-through shirt. It’s been spotted on almost every style blog in the past fortnight or so and the piece in question shows no signs of leaving the High Street anytime soon!
It’s the perfect smart-but-casual piece and as with many of my previously featured items, there are plenty of more affordable alternatives available. I’ve spotted them in New Look, H&M, Monki and all over ASOS.
The one I’ve featured is by Topshop.
I surprisingly like, and would consider wearing, Look One, despite it being all the things I normally hate: colour, trousers, floral AND brogues?!
I guess this look tries to encapsulate a girly and tailored take on that androgynous look that I love to hate. I absolutely love this rich pink colour, and thought it would look lovely paired with a navy tapered trouser. Tuck in and button to the top, then add this adorable leather, heart punchout belt to sweeten the look up.
I dithered for ages when I saw these floral panel brogues: in theory, they shouldn’t work, but they do, and look oh so nice with this outfit. I really think this look balances out androgynous in a cutesy, girly way.
Look Two is a perfect example of how the blogosphere influences and shapes my choices of clothing.
The British summer is host to possibly the most unpredictable element known to man, therefore outfit choices in the said summer have to be made pretty wisely. I love the idea of wearing a button through shirt with a skirt, and popping a jumper over the top, a la Lily.
The flirty, floaty shape of this skirt is so summery and perfect, yet unfortunately is something that may not always work in the summer. I’d pair this with a block coloured black button through: any other colour might look too fussy!
Wear it with a pale grey jumper and bring the collar out to tighten up the look. Keep the look necklace-free so the focus is placed on the skirt and collar bringing the look together. This is also a nice day-to-evening look, where you can swap the jumper for a silk scarf and some cute heels, pop a clutch on and meet friends for drinks!
Look Three is an boho-inspired look, with a double layered collar and button through shirt look.
I think layering collared shirts is a really unique and effortless look – I recently styled some garments with a doubled collar for my Uni portfolio. Wear the plain button through buttoned with the top and bottom buttons undone, then layer the snake print piece on top, completely unbuttoned. Pale denim is key to this look, otherwise it’ll all look quite dark and boring.
I chose two pieces of jewellery from the beautiful and ever so talented Ella’s jewellery shop, which is so perfect for this look.
I hope you enjoyed this week’s installment of Ways to Wear. I’ve had a few requests for upcoming posts, and I really hope I manage to do them justice! I’m off to get ready to see my beloved Taylor Swift in London tonight, I’m ridiculously excited and you can expect a fangirl-filled post tomorrow!
