From my calculations, it has been a whopping three weeks since my last Ways to Wear installment.
I guess I’ve just been busy with all sorts of other things. Primarily Uni work – which you’ll be getting a sneak preview of in an upcoming post – and generally easing away from posting every single day.
This week’s featured Ways to Wear item is the sleeveless denim jacket. Again, spotted all over Lookbook.nu and the blogosphere. Things are definitely getting a little denim-heavy on here, considering my last featured item was the denim A-line skirt!
Before you all make a sharp exit at the thought of double denim, hear me out.
A firm trend last summer and the one before that, double denim is the Marmite of fashion. Although I’ve always had it down in my metaphorical Fashion Hate list, I personally have begun to warm to the trend. Pair this pair of dark indigo/purple broderie anglaise trim shorts with a bleach wash denim jacket, and inject some texture with this lace back tee. The key to working double denim is to break up that tough texture with other garments, and a cropped denim jacket is perfect for this. I added a hot pink lip and 50’s-esque headwrap, alluding to a modern pin-up look.
Now Look Two is by far my favourite this week! I had originally been visualising the sleeveless denim jacket with a ‘perfect’ maxi dress or jersey jumpsuit, but came across this maxi skirt while perusing the Topshop website.
The skirt is the epitome of laidback summer chic, and would be a great addition to any wardrobe! I think the strap-detailed cami would look sweet tucked in or left loose, either way, it creates a nice contrast to the lengthy material of the skirt. As the skirt is so long and perfectly simple, I wanted to add a pair of mottled print sunglasses (kudos on your sunglasses collection this season, New Look, you’ve outdone yourself and I’m in love!) and these beautiful ethnic detailed sandals. Perfect hippie chic, and I can see the likes of Gem, Morven and Sara in this look.
I don’t want to add to the blogger/journo cliché and say that Look Three is a festival look. I’d imagine this look being perfectly at home either on a shopping date, the beach, a coffee shop haunt or a music fest though!
Thought I’d include this because I’m positive that about 99% of the blogosphere now owns this playsuit from H&M (whether plain black, leopard print or patterned), deeming this a perfect Ways to Wear look if you don’t want to splurge! Teamed with some long necklaces from my beloved Miss Selfridge to break up the block colour, and with another pair of moccasin inspired sandals.
Well that’s me done for another week in the Ways to Wear camp! I’ve missed putting these together, and am currently feeling very inspired in my blogging! I think that’s mainly down to having completed Uni work, and having no other distraction other than TV and food to block my way. I have a few garments in mind for next week’s installment, so stay tuned for that. I’ll be back soon with either an outfit post or a peek into my fashion editorial, depending on how lazy I’m feeling/if I’m called into work or not!
