Hey gang! Hope you’re all well and enjoying your weekends?
Me? I’m currently indulging in some shameless fangirl time and rewatching the Teen Choice Awards: absolutely love Taylor Swift’s Marilyn Monroe-esque dress. Thought I would squeeze in another instalment of my Ways to Wear series though, where I style a garment in three ways, giving you ideas to rework pieces in your wardrobe.
This week’s featured item is the humble denim shirt. I remember the craze on the High Street when denim shirts first came back into popularity. I never bought into the trend but they look so lovely on other people. Here’s three accessible ways to wear the look.
Look One is supposed to be a casual chic look with some luxe additions in the little leather backpack and slightly ’30s-inspired earrings.
That lovely dusky, muted pink colour is going to be so popular next season, so I threw a pair of those in for good measure, I think the pink looks lovely with some blue denim! Wear the denim shirt unbuttoned, almost like a cardigan, so you can see the mustard yellow belt and graphic print tee. I personally would have preferred some cigarette trousers in place of skinny jeans, but apparently the High Street hasn’t cottoned onto that yet!
I’m probably going to buy everything that I’ve featured in this look once payday comes around. I wanted to go for a Miu Miu/Stella McCartney vibe in Look Two, but I got carried away and came up with this instead!
Wear the lace skater skirt with the shirt untucked for an off-duty model look, and slip this gorgeous knitted top on top. The knitted top actually has the sweetest black tie-back detail, which meant I couldn’t go ahead and put a bow brooch at the front as well. Instead, I compensated by adding this ‘lips’ brooch (wear to the left side of the chest) and some black boots to co-ordinate everything.
My final Look is something you can easily wear in the evening, either for drinks or a night out, or to a party/gathering. I Tweeted about seeing the most beautiful velvet romper on Etsy yesterday, and found this similar version at Motel!
Tie the ends of the denim shirt up at the waist for a flattering line, and pop this coloured clutch under your arm for a revisited ’90s look. I’m also still in love with these Missguided peeptoe wedges, and currently lusting after some Illamasqua lipsticks. For the day, you could swap the wedges for some classic, ladylike scallop flats, and the clutch for a simple leather tote bag.
Hopefully I have left you all with some food for thought of ways to style your denim shirts! I’m sure many of you are several ££s poorer now too! I’m off for a spot of home-cooked lunch, a browse through Vogue (this month’s editorials and adverts are so beautiful) and to get ready for a long shift at work tonight. Enjoy!
