I wanted to go right back to basics with this week’s Ways to Wear post.
It’s been a constant nagging thing in the back of my head that this has turned into a ‘how to’ feature, as opposed to showing ways to interpret and revitalise an item in your wardrobe, which is why I chose the very humble black T-shirt.
Before you all click away and scamper off in search of a bowl of hot soup and your blanket at the mention of a T-shirt, I’ve styled these Looks with a very broad, winter-orientated mind. I thought I’d accidentally woken up in Antarctica this morning – it was freezing!
Another little disclaimer, too, for newer readers: you don’t have to buy a new T-shirt, or any of the items I’ve featured on here. Use them as a guide, and replace that £65 Topshop cardigan with a knitted cardy you already have, I just like to browse online for pretty things!
It isn’t the most versatile of pieces, and you’ll probably manage about a month or two of wear with it, but I do appreciate a good Fair Isle pattern when I see one, and the colours are perfectly muted!
Wear with this parka (look for jersey-lined, or you are likely to freeze outdoors!), tan ankle boots and a hat to keep your hair intact. For some reason I can picture Lyzi in this outfit!
Really like the idea of something simple, jeans, a tee, some boots, classic earrings with a cutesy Minnie Mouse twist (one for the Christmas list at £34!) and a luxe faux fur collar.
If you’re not a fan of the faux fur look, I think some satin or grosgrain ribbon bought cheaply at a haberdashery and tied neatly into a bow at the neckline is a lovely touch too! I’m also going against my personal taste and recommending a snug-fit Tee with this Look: something boxy and that falls just above your hip is perfect. *cough* Liv would look perfect in this!
Wear the tee knotted at the front or untucked and loose over the shorts, (great for T-shirts that are too big or borrowed from boyfriends!) and pop a casual, light coloured cardigan on top!
Over-the-knee socks are still adorable to me, but I’d definitely recommend wearing some nude tights underneath to keep some warmth in. Finish with these beyond-cute boots, and you have perfect ‘Girl Next Door’ chic.
I hope this post has encouraged some of you to dig deep and revitalise your black tees! It’s really easy to consign T-shirts to the attic or ‘Summer wardrobe’ section, and then forget all about them come next season, so try a few Looks out, and you could be pleasantly surprised! Uniqlo have some amazing HeatTech T-shirts, which really work, so they could be a worthwhile investment if you feel the cold!
And (another sneaky self-promotion!) if you have Tumblr, you can find more Ways to Wear posts at my Ways to Wear Daily blog to tide you over until next week’s edition! ♥
