Denim and I go a long way back. From those double denim days – hey, matchy matchy was the only thing to be seen in in the 90’s! – to upgrading my tween wardrobe to include a denim skirt, falling completely out of love with them in favour of dresses, to the modern day where all manner of denim dabbles in my daily look, it’s a thing.
A midweek work look requires comfort and classic style in equal measures, in my book. Taking inspiration from one of my biggest style – and life… – icons, Taylor Swift, this look marries country charm with a slight city girl twist. Taylor’s look is pretty quintessential and rustic, full of denim or check shirts, jeans with rolled up hems and open buttons for a super casual finish. Of course I had to include a monochrome cami and my favourite corduroy jeans to the Levi’s denim shirt – texture mixing is one of my favourite ways to update a classic piece. The “rose gold” popper buttons also help to keep this piece looking new and refreshed. Taylor also loves a sweet tan satchel (remember when she tried to, er, ‘permanently borrow’ a satchel from an InStyle photoshoot?!) so I added my scallop edge one to channel her style, along with these glitter toe ballerina flats in keeping with that ol’ ‘Never forget the essence of your spark,’ mantra.
How do you keep classic denim looking modern and refreshed? Any denim stories, good or bad, to share with me?
