Everyone’s favourite time of the year is upon us and my Advent calendar is already awaiting me by the year-round fairy lights that sum up our living room decor. I’m here with a handy four-part gift series for those niggly gift receivers that are just impossible to buy for…
It isn’t just girls who ‘have everything’, the guys in my life are pretty consumer heavy too. Whether it’s the occasional clothes splurge, me stocking him up with odds and ends gifts around the year, or the simple fact that he’s completely addled with game enthusiast tendencies (why wouldn’t you need 4 new consoles a year?!), guys have got it just as bad as we do. Here’s a comprehensive rundown of what’s on my To Buy list for the pesky males:
Bound ‘Death Note’ Manga Book Series (£43.40): Nearly every male in my life is manga and anime obsessed. It has to be done, seeing as I’m a slight (ahem) enthusiast myself. A complete series of Death Note should be high on most Christmas lists, and this set comes in a collectable bound box. Perfect. If you haven’t watched or read Death Note, I’d highly recommend it, too!
Adventure Time Pyjama Bottoms (£24 approx.): Not one for everyone but again on the same line as above, if your boy enjoys a slice of, er, Adventure Time – or even if you’re a huge fan and want to force it upon others! – these pyjama bottoms or lounge pants are perfect. So what if sleepwear is a hugely cliche choice of festive gift?!
Boys’ Hamper (£however much you want): A truly customised choice, this is worthwhile for brothers, Dads, cousins, boyfriends or husbands alike. Simply pick up a festive box or wicker basket, and fill it with little fancies. My selection to make the holiday cut this year includes a mini pick ‘n’ mix – Cyber Candy does a great selection online, as does the Selfridges’ Food Hall, or an old fashioned sweet shoppe if you have one near you. Maybe there’s a sentimental sweet treat amongst the pack that you can swing in.
For a more age appropriate addition, a mini alcohol bottle makes a nice touch – he won’t be drunk, just merry…! I’ve also added a handy portable phone charger, and these Sennheiser MM 70S bass enhanced earphones (£69.95) are good for music lovers. Mine are the best. To complete the hamper, sneak a River Island Cable Knit Snood (£17) in there: subtle style that he won’t even notice you doing, and if it goes unworn, you can always sneak it in your stash.
Of course that isn’t how I acquired my snood… Finally, drop it in an Instax photo or two for boyfriend/fiance/husband types. Printed out selfies are much more acceptable.
Marc by Marc Jacobs Leather Wallet (£120): Practical and grown-up, unlike some of my other choices, a classic leather wallet is timeless and he’ll use it every day. I love this grained leather one from Marc by Marc Jacobs – £120 isn’t a bad investment. Add a filled-up Pinkberry/Nando’s/Caffe Nero loyalty card inside for an added bonus.
Future Cinema Tickets (£38.20 each): Finally, it isn’t all about the material possessions. Try nabbing a pair of Future Cinema tickets for an experience kinda gift. If you’re new to the Future Cinema thang, they’re a live events company who have revolutionised the cinema experience, bringing a truly 4D twist to it all. “Specialising in bringing events to life through a unique fusion of film, improvised performances, detailed design and interactive multimedia, Future Cinema create wholly immersive worlds that stretch the audience’s imagination and challenge their expectations.” One for the film, activity and action men.
