Something that I’m somewhat notorious for amongst my family and friends is that I’m terribly disorganised. My bedroom is often a mess, my office a complete state, my studio is semi-okay and my mind is always someplace else. I’ve been known to triple-book myself (sorry!) and you’ll often find discarded Post-It notes everywhere, including my car. I’m slowly but surely getting better though, I mean, I kind of have to be, being self-employed and all!
This year, I’m approaching organisation hands-on. Two diaries, a notebook or three, my Wunderlist and Trello. 2017, I’m ‘aving ya.
ban.do 2017 Planner
First up, let’s talk you through my beautiful ban.do planner, the talk of the blogger town at the moment. I’ve spied Sarah, Gem, Bee and Jemma use this amongst countless others, so I suppose you could say my boyfriend did oh so well when he gifted this to me for Christmas to support Honey + Chai! This planner is reserved for work and the shop – to separate it from my leisure and blog planner – which sounds crazy but is kinda great… so far. In here, I jot down basic to-do lists for each day, schedule meetings, note down ideas for aforementioned meetings, plan collections for the shop and generally sketch out my days. I LOVE how huge this planner is and love sitting down at 6pm and 8am, scribbling in plans.
The planner comes with two A5 sheets of stickers and a slip pocket (great for stashing receipts that need to be filed – I file them every Monday morning), and it fits brilliantly in my ‘work bags’ or a simple canvas tote. The artwork is all absolutely beautiful, full of colour and truly unique.
My FRINGE Planner
I picked up the beautiful black leather, baby pink and gold foil FRINGE planner from Anthropologie with the intention of using it to plan Daisybutter – thoroughly. Like I’ve mentioned before, 2017 is the year that I want to actively work on my blog and turn it into a tad more than a hobby. I’d like it to become 25% of my income and for that, I’ll have to step up my game!
In this planner, the months are divided up by dreamy pink paper dividers, each etched with a gold foil quote. The days are lined on a week-to-view sheet and it’s perfect for pencilling in blog post titles, writing to-do lists (for reference, mine consist of photographs to shoot, props to prepare, recipes to cook, brand deadlines, YouTube filming sessions, things that’ve made me happy, etc.) and noting down future post ideas. I also use the pages to manually collect posts I love for my Sundaze posts! It’ll be a wonderful point of reference to fondly read back on in years to come.
One of my all-time favourite apps, Wunderlist is a great on-the-go option if I’ve neglected to take my planner out with me. Using two planners means I’ll often miss out on noting something down, so Wunderlist (iOS/Android) is where I go to make interactive, ongoing lists. Here I store things like Instagram caption ideas (I’m being dead serious here!), food shopping lists, restaurants to visit in London and in Hong Kong, books I’d like to read or research into, and other such oddments. You can tap into lists and add tasks or simply tick off the points as you go along.
I suppose you could easily stop at using Wunderlist because the app synchronises to the iMac one meaning I can access mine from my MacBook but another tool I use daily/weekly is Trello. I came across this whilst working full-time in London as it’s great for multi-team projects.
Simply create a board, add columns and begin adding tasks! My board features 5 columns: Posts To Write, Photos To Shoot, YouTube Videos, Finished Posts, Invoices. They’re all pretty straightforward, I suppose. I don’t use this every day, mostly for longer posts or sponsored posts that require more attention to detail. You just drag the completed cards into the relevant column, once complete! If you’re lucky enough to work with a fellow blogger or perhaps have a photographer, you can invite others to join boards and they’ll have the freedom to write notes/comments and attach files. It’s a dream to use.
