It feels like a good time for me to sit and reflect on the past twelve months, as I’ve done every year since I began writing this blog almost eight years ago. When I first tried to work on this blog post, I came up with nothing at all and so this post comes to you entirely from the top of my head (and I’ve already had a gin!). 2017 has been a complete blur to me, and I suppose that goes hand-in-hand with adult responsibilities and the fact that the world moves impossibly fast these days. From consumerist content to the whole need-it-now culture, everything feels simultaneously like it’s happening now and a week ago. Isn’t it weird? (I’m looking at you Instagram.)
Instead of going through my year month by month or recounting it in Instagrams or by other milestones that I’ve used to format these round-ups, this year I just want to talk simply about what I wanted from 2017 and end with some lists. Love me a list. I went into this year wanting to reprioritise things in my life and find some focus. I was about to write ‘find more focus’, but it isn’t entirely untrue to say that this time last year, I was unfocussed, scatterbrained, lacking in drive and ambition, and just in a bit of a weird space. I put my all into my business, had to hold back in other areas, loved wholly, laughed aplenty and ultimately decided to seize back my twenties. I’ve found it extremely rewarding to own being my own boss but I’ve also struggled with the comparison to my brother (Chinese family life; plus he’s an accountant). I’ve travelled miles less – literally! – and I’ve dreamed lots too. My friendship circle seems to have shrunk a touch but the friends I’ve spent this year with are truly the greatest.
Blog-wise, I wanted to make some changes as always. This ‘industry’ (I’m loathe to call it that on here simply because it isn’t my full-time gig and I feel as though I’m not entitled to call it so) is ever changing and it’s always important to move goals around and work with the tide, not against it. We had a mini rebrand in November and I absolutely LOVE Daisybutter at the moment, more so than ever. I spent last night working on my business plans for both Daisybutter and Tartle Copywriting and am feeling ridiculously inspired to fire away at it all. I can’t bloody wait.
