A day where even the shops and the law tell us to slow down and have a lie-in. To get home early. Newspapers are stuffed with weekend magazines and specials. Our local favourite eateries boast menus heaving with moreish brunch dishes. The early hours are spent shifting from one comfortable position to another, French press beside us to refuel. It’s a chance to hit refresh and really soak up some rest.
I love Sundays so much that I created an entire blog series around it, for goodness’ sake.
Something that I find really aids the process of ‘a good week’ is getting a few non-negotiables in every weekend.
From my favourite means of waking oneself up (reading, of course) to the best meal of the day, and all of the other little rituals in between, here is my Sunday routine.

A delicious breakfast
My ideal weekend always begins with a delicious breakfast. The more the better really, as it then makes me want to head outdoors and either go for a walk, explore or hit the gym. I usually eat the same breakfast throughout the week, and there’s nothing I enjoy more than popping out for brunch. At home though, I like to make a breakfast of French toast or pancakes, a little fruit, a coffee and a glass of lemon-infused water. Slightly extra? Yes. Absolutely hits the spot? Definitely.
My banana pancake recipe! (VE)
- 2 ripe bananas
- Half cup of steel cut oats
- Half teaspoon coconut sugar
- Half teaspoon cinnamon
- One and a half teaspoons baking powder
- Three quarters cup of dairy-free milk (I use oat milk)
- Combine ingredients.
- Fry for a minute or so on each side.
- Serve with a drizzle of maple syrup and a handful of berries!
- Add cacao nibs to your raw pancake mix for added flavour.
Our weekly grocery shop
Whether this is done at the weekend or your preferred day of the week, getting my complete food shop in one go is key to my healthy-ish eating for the week ahead. We always do ours on a Sunday afternoon after a gym session and pick up everything we need for lunch, snacks and dinners, and it’s usually the same ingredients weekly.

Book in my gym classes + sessions
As all of my gym and studio classes are booked online, I also sit down on a Sunday evening to book in my classes and see what my week is looking like. While I’m not so hot on gym classes these days, I do find that on busier weeks, they make me far more likely to actually work out. Training sessions might be my favourite but they’re much easier to skip because I won’t be charged anything extra for not showing up. I also like being able to open my bullet journal and see exactly what’s going on when.

List-making + bullet journaling
Finally, I end my Sunday evenings with a short bullet journal session. This is where I take time to map out next week’s weekly spread, fill in any appointments, client bookings, essential life tasks including bills, and, as above, gym sessions.
I find it helps me clear my mind and visualise exactly what’s coming up, dispelling any anxiety I might have that’s related to time constraints or work and maximises my productivity on a Monday morning. I also do a little list-making, whether that’s within my weekly spread so I know the tasks allocated to certain days, or on separate pages just to brain-dump. Even ‘for fun’ lists like, ‘the things I enjoy about mornings’ or ‘words that sound pretty’ help me to clear my mind, ready for a good nights’ sleep.
