In my quest to enrich my mind with more than endless Friends and How I Met Your Mother reruns whilst I work, I’ve really been getting back into podcasts. I guess I’ve had a bit of a love-hate relationship with podcasts which probably stems from the fact that podcasts are my preference in lieu of a gym playlist and I’ve come to associate episodes with sweating my tits off whilst on the treadmill.
These days, I reserve a selection of podcasts that I exclusively listen to when working from my home office. Here are my favourites for increasing productivity and knowledge whilst also being entertaining…
Editor’s note: I’ve linked to Acast on all of the below podcasts for easy desktop and Android device listening, but feel free to search them on your own App Store or Play Store!
Is It Just Me?
Hosted by Jo Elvin and James Williams, formerly of Glamour magazine, Is It Just Me? is a hilarious, thought-provoking and usually insightful chat with celebrities about topical issues. It is laid-back, cleverly made and beautifully structured with relaxed interviews in Jo’s inimitable style and a total joy to listen to. I really enjoy gaining a look into the thoughts of the show’s guests and it is a genuine, laugh-out-loud funny sort of listen at times.
I’m really into blogger-hosted podcasts at the moment, as a proud supporter of my local girl gang (i.e. the overarching community). Let’s Discuss is the brainchild of Ella from Coco’s Tea Party and Monica from The Elgin Avenue, two long-term favourites of mine.
Let’s Discuss is a, you’ve guessed it, weekly discussion about focal issues that we each experience in our twenties and I always find it relatable and inspiring in equal measure. Also, I really appreciate that their show notes are well-considered, meaning you’ll leave each episode with bonus reading material and research matter.
The High Low
If you similarly avoid most traditional news outlets because the world is seemingly on fire, then The High Low will be your new favourite. The High Low is a weekly pop culture podcast that delves deep into topical issues, stories currently in the news and other taboos, debunking each in clear, witty and concise ways. I adore the co-hosts and love their discourse in these episodes.
