Welcome back to Daisybutter! And, to a brand new design. I’d been feeling complacent towards my previous layout for a number of weeks and coupled with a realigned focus in where I want to be next, I dove straight in with a re-jig. Ta-dah!
So far in 2019, I’ve felt like I’ve been flotsam-ing with all things blog related. Last year I felt inspired and empowered – this year, not so much. It’s odd really.
The editorial calendar set-up I had in 2018 meant I was always on top of things. I’d be motivated to see those content titles change to green. But somehow it has served to extinguish all of my creativity this year. Sure, I’m the one who conjures up these post ideas and content angles. Sure, I’m also the one who uncovers the timeliness and plots in the publish dates. I couldn’t pinpoint what had changed.
Back to the drawing board I went. And by that I mean, a bullet journal page and the help of Vix’s useful resources. What am I hoping to achieve with my blog? Who is my ideal reader? (You, always.) Why am I producing this content? After a quick bullet journaling session – and I’m always sad I can’t shorten that to BJ’ing, because, well…! – I had a breakthrough.
“You don’t write because you want to say something, you write because you have something to say.”
– F. Scott Fitzgerald
Less, more meaningful content. Because there’s already enough noise in this space. Documenting my experiences being part of a global movement to be kinder and more mindful, while remembering to take stock of the little things. Endlessly working on and for myself.
That doesn’t mean, of course, that things are going to hugely change on here. It’ll still very much be me and my weird way with words. There’ll still be little life manuals and semi-coherent think-pieces. I’m still planning on sharing the globe through my eyes, through my travel guides. Certainly there’ll be plenty an outfit accompanied by myriad words that may or may not be related. I’m just stripping things back a touch.
Plus, it’s good to remember that as helpless as we may all feel at the moment – Brexit and Awful British Politics 2k19, I’m looking at you – every time we share something, a new Instagram, a freshly squeezed blog post, a part of ourselves, we leave an impression on the person reading it. That could be for one minute, for three minutes (the average reading time for this blog, according to Google Analytics!), or for a lifetime. Isn’t that something to behold?
Anyway! Welcome to a swish new edition of Daisybutter. It comes just as our little community nabbed Highly Commended in the Lifestyle Blog category of the UK Blog Awards 2019. I was absolutely blown away on Friday night to hear Louise read out my blog name. Thank you SO much! Have fun exploring the new design and pages – and please stop by in the comments to say hello!
