I had to scrap the post I’d originally planned for today because something just wasn’t clicking. But it’s turned out to be a happy accident, as now I can get truly old-school and share five of my recent loves. I fondly remember sharing Friday Favourites every week and it’s a real shame that I don’t have a specific log of these for the past five or six years.
Anyway! Today I’m sharing five recent loves; the things that I’d totally recommend and can’t stop talking about to anybody that’ll listen to me.
To Live and Die in LA
My colleague and I are die-hard true crime podcast fanatics. You’ll regularly find us exchanging podcast recommendations and this week’s was To Live and Die in LA. The podcast serialises a relatively recent case (it’s from 2018) and the masterful storytelling, meaningful soundbites from people close to the case and the score make it a true ‘delight’ to listen to.
Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng
I’ve been studiously reading this novel after it completely stole the literary show last year. Celeste Ng’s Little Fires Everywhere was one of my favourite reads last year, and this one – its predecessor – is certainly one of mine this year.
Everything I Never Told You is a slow, somewhat-dark tale that revolves around a girl, missing then found dead, and its impact on her family. Secrets, haunting truths and concealed memories slowly unfurl to magnificent effect. It’s an emotional read and one that I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.
Milk Makeup Lip + Cheek Stick
For one reason or another, it’s been an absolute age since I last made a Cult Beauty order. I’ve loved Cult Beauty for a number of years: their edits are always so well-formed and I never need to make orders from several avenues because everything I want is already on the site.
Well friends, I made a follow-up order for the full-sized version because I’m obsessed. The colour – I wear ‘Werk’ – is perfectly dusty and bright at the same time, and wears perfectly on both lips and cheeks. Believe the hype, trust me.
After-work dog walks
Now that it’s somewhat warmer and much lighter in the evenings, I’m really enjoying after-work dog walks.
I often leave my phone at home and, recently, take my film camera out to soak up the gloriousness that is early summer.
We take a different route every day and Milo is always a bundle of excitement having not seen me all day. Honestly, the number one reason you all need a pup is how excited they are to see you come 6pm!
Just the other week I was lamenting the fact I’d probably never have a decent Subway again – the Veggie Delight is a joke of a sub – and then they went ahead and released their vegan patty!
I’m nigh on obsessed with it and have gobbled up at least one a fortnight since discovering it. Plus, the vegan garlic aioli is something to behold.
If you do one thing this week, make it ‘try the vegan Subway’. I have mine on Hearty Italian with lettuce, sweetcorn, red onions, salad peppers, jalapenos and garlic aioli. Delish.
