This post is an advertised collaboration with Boots but all thoughts are my own.
Summer officially kicks off next week and whilst the weather doesn’t appear to have received the memo, my wardrobe and makeup stash certainly have.
After the longest winter known to man, I’m more than ready to shake off neutral hues and play-it-safe combinations. In their place, I’m welcoming fresh and fun looks, getting a little experimental in the colour palette department and refreshing my makeup routine from top to toe, thanks to a little help from Boots.
I’ve been ‘working on’ uncovering a luminous glow, complexion wise, for a few weeks now. Winter does terrible things to my skin and I’ve been indulging in twice-weekly masks, serums and other glow-givers to encourage a natural, dewy glow. This e.l.f. Beauty Shield Vitamin C Pollution Prevention Serum has seamlessly slotted into my routine: formulated with vitamins C and E as well as pomegranate extract, it brightens skin and protects it against everyday environment stressors.
The Botanics All Bright Radiance Balm provides a lightweight, refreshing base to my summer makeup look. It can be used solo (like I’m doing at the moment!) or used a luminous primer underneath face base.
My signature makeup look includes polished brows, winged eyeliner and matte lips but, challenged by Boots, I wanted to switch things up.
I find I don’t feel like myself unless I’m wearing at least a wash of colour on my eyelids. So armed with the Too Faced Natural Eyeshadow Palette, I used the three matte colours to create a soft, neutral smoky eye – my base for a bold summer eye.
Enter FENTY BEAUTY’s Baeside Vivid Liquid Eyeliner. As soon as I laid eyes on this trio, I knew I wanted to create a coloured liner look. My lash line is pretty sparse, so I started with my usual black winged eyeliner and then added a line of vibrant blue just on top. I blended it by starting with a super-fine line and creating a more substantial line towards the end of the flick. I originally wanted to create a tri-colour line, but my skills certainly aren’t good enough for that! It’s the perfect colour contradiction to the smoky neutral eye.
Summer usually calls for a smattering of glitter makeup in line with festival season, but honestly? You won’t catch me at any festival unless the line-up includes Taylor Swift, Blackpink, BTS, Big Bang and/or Apink 😉
After eyes, I always elevate my complexion. A natural, rose blush to the cheeks and then a few drops of the Sleek MakeUP Highlighting Elixir Illuminating Drops creates a covetable, soft glow look which makes it seem as though we haven’t been hit with waves of torrential rain for weeks on end.
Lip colour-wise, I haven’t donned my signature red lip in years now. Can I even call it my signature red lip?! Instead, e.l.f.’s Matte Lip Colour in Tea Rose pulls the entire look together in a girly yet not-too-much way – it doesn’t take away from the slick of blue liner, or the luminous cheeks.
To complete my summer beauty look, a spritz of Sanctuary Spa’s Fragranced Body Spray leaves a fresh, citrusy fragrance trail. It’s one of few cruelty-free perfume choices at Boots, and is perfect to pop in your bag for on-the-go freshen-ups.
Which products and trends are you most excited to try this season? How will you be switching up your makeup routine for summer?
