I’m starting this catchup poolside at our hotel — the Kouros Exclusive — whilst we wait for our transfer back to the airport, although by the time you read this, I’ll have been home a few days. So I lied when I said I was going to be taking a full week-and-a-half from the blog, and of course I’ve been shooting a few things here and there whilst we’ve been in Greece. However, I do feel super relaxed and ready to get back into the swing of things.
Just before we came away, I was at breaking point. My sleep was erratic, I had no interest or energy in keeping up a skincare routine, I barely even brushed my hair, and I’d stopped ‘making an effort’ for in-house work days. And despite recognising all of these things, I couldn’t find the headspace to just get myself back on track and recuperate. I suppose I’m just not that sort of person. I read something the other day — it was either on The Everygirl or The Cut, two of my favourite websites — and I realised it’s my entrepreneurial spirit and freelance mind that join forces and have me working to the bone until I just up and go, and make huge sweeping changes.
Our week away in Rhodes has been just what I needed. Simple food (so delicious! I love Greek food!), the sun, days spent poolside, two more books down in my 2019 reading challenge, beers and conversation. I finished The Testaments by Margaret Atwood (really enjoyed it, despite having not read its predecessor) and Lie With Me by Phillipe Besson (absolutely incredible, a perfect poolside read). It’s been a sun-soaked, salt-sprayed tonic for the soul, and just what I needed to run full-steam ahead with my end-of-year goals.
I wrote a few weeks back that I was making some big changes with work. Well, I’m thrilled to be taking back the reins with my working week as of, well, right now! Three days in London, the rest of the week home. Bliss. I’m really excited to throw my all into a brand new project at Tartle Copywriting and also into a few passion projects for Daisybutter. These past few days spent in Greece living a simple lifestyle served to nudge me back on course and realise that sometimes you can put all of your energy into things that just make you happy, rather than a go-getting business woman all of the time.
I’m ready to live Q4 at 75% go, 25% soak-up-the-seasons.
