Now that we’re on the home run, quite literally, for our family house move, it means that Harvey and I’s home-buying journey is on the horizon! Somewhat annoyingly, we haven’t managed to align the timelines so I’ll be moving twice, but it’s been a great opportunity for me to really take stock of the ‘stuff’ I have, where it might slot into my next room and whether or not it has a space in my future home.
Let me tell you: I’ve filled up several bin bags and charity bags this way!
Moreover, it’s allowed Harvey and I to hone in a little further on what we want our home to look and feel like, how we want to feel living there, and also some of the practicalities we might want for our lifestyle in the new place. With all of that in mind, I thought I’d collate together some of our ideas and share some updated First Home mood boards!
To be honest, our plans for the master bedroom haven’t hugely changed since my first home inspiration post. However we have honed in on more of the details. I’m still besotted with all things rattan, but I’m beginning to wonder whether it’ll all be a little stark and possibly even too trendy a few months down the line. Instead, I’m planning on going for a fairly classic bed frame to house our beautiful Leesa mattress and layering it with gorgeous blush, mustard and rust-toned linen bedding for that bohemian look I so covet. We’ll match it with a rattan dresser, perhaps to store our underwear, pyjamas and essentials, but opt for a not-entirely-matched look all in all. Inspired by my wonderful friend Siobhan, we’re hoping to shop around in our (new) local area and reclaim pieces to create a home that feels as much ‘us’ as it does our new surroundings.
Harvey and I are also making headway with bathroom plans! From zoned underfloor heating to absolute tile goals, we’re really excited to design and install (his Dad, not us!) a custom bathroom where we can each unwind and refresh ourselves after a long day. I love nothing more than a soak in a magnesium bath to alleviate some of my anaemia symptoms, and Harvey is a full-on clean obsessive so having a lovely bathroom is top of our wishlist. I could sleep on the floor for months if it meant being able to enjoy a shower or bath in a new, clean bathroom!
Bear with me here because I know a sun room sounds incredibly fancy. But Harvey and I don’t envision ourselves having or fully utilising a full-on dining room at the moment, and we’ve seen SO many adorable sun rooms in houses we’ve viewed. Of course that could change and if it does we can reconsider our plans, but we’d love to make an existing small dining room into a sun room. We’d do this in two ways: adding bespoke windows* or bespoke bi-fold doors to maximise natural light, and keeping the room light and airy in colour — perhaps a bone white hue, elevated by peacock green and purple tones — and creating an outdoors-in sort of vibe.
Hand-in-hand with our sun room plans, we’re incredibly conscious that we won’t have the garden of our dreams just yet. In fact, we’ll be lucky if we get a garden at all! However a garden is 100% one of our non-negotiables as we want pets and also to have a little vegetable patch. The plan? To build our own vegetable beds, and create a cosy little nook with old/reclaimed pallets and big cushions (I’m considering sewing my own from old bedsheets that don’t match our interior colour palette!), so we can enjoy a coffee out there in the mornings or a red wine after dinner.
What are some of the things you’d love to do in your home?
