When I first came across the concept of manifestation a year or more ago, I shrugged it off as one of those newfangled, woo-woo things that wasn’t for me. I was stubbornly, firmly in my book-Blair Waldorf mode (‘I’m working for what’s for me, and also destiny has my back’). But as the word seeped into my everyday reading materials, I began to feel more and more curious about it. And so in September 2019, I ploughed through Victoria of The Manifestation Collective’s wonderful archive and grew more and more interested by the minute.
How do you believe in something you’ve never experienced before? I don’t want to get too spiritual, but it’s about changing your mindset to the what if. The “oh my god, what if this actually works?” and the “what if I do attract the opportunity to buy a new car into my life” – it turns the usual negative connotation linked to “what if” on its head and let’s you get excited about all the new possibilities.Victoria Jackson, The Manifestation Collective
Eventually, I realised that in many ways I was already manifesting, albeit in a passive and less effective way. I already practice gratitude — it’s a mainstay of my daily routine and has been for years — and I’m the sort of person who is fairly attuned to their goals most of the time. Still, I ‘postponed’ manifestation until later in the year; I had that weird ‘New Year, new start’ mentality in me. However the beauty in manifestation is that you have the power to take control of your life right now. You just have to start.
How I’ve manifested so far in 2020
In late December, I created a digital vision board under the guidance of Vix and Grow & Glow, and also added a physical one to my bullet journal so that I could see it all the time. I used to do this at Uni to great success, and it baffles me that I had paused the activity for so long! I won’t divulge what exactly what on the vision board, but three months later, I’m already discovering that the things I put out in the universe have returned to find me.
The idea behind manifestation returns to the Law of Attraction. We’re all made up of energy; humans, animals, objects. And whatever energy you put out must come back. ‘Positive energy attracts positive energy,’ says Victoria of Apartment Number 4. So, manifestation is as simple (to an extent) as giving voice to a goal of yours, and asking the universe for it. You should be specific, open your heart and believe that you already have the things that you want. Tune in to the happiness and abundant joy you’d feel if those wishes came true.
On her blog, Victoria also shares that for the Law of Attraction to really do its’ thing, you need to be grateful for what you already have too. Every day, I log (at least) one thing that I’m grateful for. I do this in my bullet journal — it’s incorporated in my monthly logs — and I used to do this by writing them on pretty, colourful paper scraps and folding them into a jar. Living a grateful and positively minded lifestyle can and will help to change your luck. New opportunities will present themselves; things that were previously clouded by negative thoughts.
My life, three months in to manifestation
I’ve been manifesting and leaning in to the Law of Attraction actively now for three months, and they’ve each been abundant in positivity and a life worth celebrating. Whilst I appreciate that the world is presently in turmoil, I’m also incredibly grateful for being healthy myself, and having my friends and family at safety. I might not have faith in the Government but I do have faith in how my loved ones and I will navigate these murky waters. Something drew me to post that Tweet last Monday and what came back to me aligned with a goal I’ve been manifesting towards all year. Next on my ‘list’ is to learn some feng shui tips from Dad and to tap in to the power of crystals.
Three months in to my manifestation ‘work’, I feel overwhelmingly happy and content. My new bedroom and home is fully aligned with my fresh mindset. I’m planting seeds every day and reaping the rewards every day too; it truly is magical to see, in hindsight, how the things I’ve noticed from my days and that I’ve shown gratitude for beautifully link to opportunities that present themselves to me. And overall, I feel incredibly in tune with my emotions, my goals and my aspirations. Woo-woo mush aside, I feel that I’m ready to receive my future.
