Something that I’ve realised over the last couple of weeks is that having a safe haven of my own is incredibly important to me. We moved from our old house on 31st January and didn’t get the keys to the new place until 21st February, and it wasn’t until 5th March that I finally moved in to our new family house. It’s been a busy, exciting and disruptive few weeks and I’m so glad that we’re on the other side of the madness at last.
I plan to buy a house of my own this year, which of course means another move, but until then, I’ll be nestled here, tucked away in a corner of Chez Chai.
Walls: Valspar Cinnamon Mocha ∙ Prints: JUNIQE (previously gifted as part of a collaboration) ∙ Desk: IKEA Limmon ∙ Glass vase and faux eucalyptus: IKEA ∙ Coasters: Anthropologie^ ∙ Himalayan pink salt tealight holder: Ideal Home Show ∙ Pen pot: Sainsbury’s ∙ Mug: Dunelm ∙ Photobooks: Papier ∙ Pillowcases: The Old English Co. ∙ Mango wood and rattan cane tray: H&M Home^.
I’ve found it so therapeutic and inspiring to put my new room together. After all, it’s where I rest, relax, read and write. An introvert and homebody through and through, my room is my sanctuary away from the noise of the outside world. You’ll find me curled up in a blanket, an Animal Crossing playlist whirring in the background — my ambient noise — whilst I lose myself in a book or tap-tap-tap away at new blog posts.
Over the years, I’ve discovered that I’m all about the cosiness and a functional space. It’s lovely to scroll through Instagram and marvel at beautifully decorated rooms and perfectly placed details and trinkets, but I’m more about having a space that works for me. My new tortoiseshell-effect glass pen pot. A wonderfully big bookcase for my bookish Instagram posts. My new desk, spacious enough for my work endeavours as well as my blog and writing endeavours. A dressing ‘zone’ where I can separate my outdoors day from my indoors day.
