When we moved house at the tail-end of February, we didn’t think for a moment that we’d become forced shut-ins for the forthcoming weeks and months. Although the looming threat of coronavirus was in the back of our minds, we were busy trying to put our family home back together on fresh turf. Paint pots were bought, dust masks donned, belongings in boxes that were hastily torn into and then shoved into corners of the new house. I shared a bedroom update a couple of months ago, and now that I’ve spent approximately 40+ days indoors, tinkering with it here and there, I thought it was about time I documented it all over again.
My bedroom feels lived-in and like it’s mine now. The first few weeks felt odd and unsettling, and I know for certain that having a house to tinker with and work on has helped all of my family through these uncertain times. What a way to move, eh?!
“I’ve been a book collector my whole life,”
The focal point of my bedroom remains my IKEA Billy Bookcase. I’m utterly obsessed with having one of these in my room (we had three in our home office downstairs before). Without it, my old bedroom was completely overrun with books that I wanted to have ‘near me’. I know that sounds ridiculous, but I’ve been a book collector my whole life, and they hold such incredible memories for me. Now, I’ve moved an entire bookcase into my room that I can ‘decorate’ (my other bookcases simply stash my collection in a very practical, alphabetical order!) to my hearts’ content!
SHELF ONE: A mini rainbow selection of books, purely for its aesthetically pleasing appearance, a stack of hardbacks, and my The Book of Dust hardbacks.
SHELF TWO: My favourites shelf!! Here I have most (I’m still saving to buy them all) of my all-time favourite books, in alphabetical order.
SHELF THREE: Cookbooks, my jewellery box, and my beloved Gossip Girl collection (turned inwards and topped with a teacup).
SHELF FOUR: My TBR shelf, a vintage camera, and my extensive bookmark stash.
SHELF FIVE: My Harry Potter collectibles, game collection and Taylor Swift magazines.
SHELF SIX: About a quarter of my glossy fashion magazine collection — I’m a fashion journalism alumni, okay?!
Another little corner that I adore is my dresser. This is where I get ready in the morning, as the two drawers at the top are full of my makeup. I also have my Nintendo Switch docked here, as it’s a good spot for my second monitor to sit when I play laying in bed like an utter sloth! And so I’ve added two prints here. I didn’t want to mount them, because I like them propped up; one is a monochrome coffee shop sign from JUNIQE, and the other is my gorgeous 20 x 20 Animal Crossing Polly Pocket print in a 50 x 50 frame. The wide mount makes it such a focal point, and I’m kinda obsessed.
Next, my desk! I didn’t even have a complete desk when I last updated you on my bedroom. Thankfully the weekend before lockdown, we managed to head to IKEA and pick up the remaining parts. I opted for an IKEA desk as the furniture in this room is kindly paid for by my parents, with a view to it all remaining here when I move into my own home. Nevertheless, I’m really happy with it — the size is great for functional work and it’s great quality for the price as well.
And there’s a mini update of my bedroom, compiled during lockdown! If you love the frames or coffee shop print in these photos, you’ll be able to buy your own from JUNIQE with 25% off, using my code WINYEE25 on orders over £29, until Monday 11th May 2020.
