Festive shopping looks a lot different this year for many of us. Whether that’s because we’re back in lockdown in the UK, it’s still unsafe elsewhere, or because the side effects of a global pandemic have knocked our finances, it’s certainly a tumultuous time. But what prevails is shopping small and shopping local, wherever we can.
At the start of the month, my sister and I announced and opened our little handcrafted goods store on Etsy, & Chai. We’re completely blown away and are very much humbled by the support of our new venture. In fact, our Series One collection sold out in just seven hours!! We’re already learning so much about running an Etsy business and we’re really excited about a) our restock, and b) our upcoming collections. What’s more, both Louise and I were incredibly heart-warmed by everybody sharing our venture and shouting about it loudly on every platform.
So, to kick-start gifting season on Daisybutter, I wanted to shine the spotlight on some incredible independent businesses that we should all support, especially during Lockdown 2.0… (Links all open in new tabs and, of course, are not affiliate links.)
Sweet & Sour Bakes
Let’s start with my girl Sophie’s business! Alongside best friend Jay, Sweet & Sour Bakes make sourdough cookies and brownies to be delivered to your door. Their treats are perfect to cheer up loved ones whilst they’re in lockdown, as a Christmas sweet, or as a well-deserved self-gift. A set of six cookies will set you back just £12 including delivery, whilst six brookies are £20 with postage. Or, pick a combo box for £20 with postage. Local deliveries are also available for those who’re Essex-based.
For intricate handmade macramé, Lily has you covered. Her Etsy store boasts beautiful yoga mat straps, plant hangers and wall hangings, all crafted from her home in Dubai. I actually have one of her small wall hangings in my bedroom; it graces my bookcase and is the perfect way to soften up the space. Lily ships to the UK and globally, and I think her creations make a great addition to any home.
By Jess D
I’m always keen to discover new vegan and cruelty-free brands, and By Jess D is of no exception. Jess, a fellow blogger, has created an incredible collection of lip glosses and liquid velvet lipsticks that suit every skin tone. Bold and striking, the shade range is incredible, and they’ll soon be adding eyeshadow palettes to the line-up. I can’t wait to see where this Black-owned beauty biz will go next, because Jess is already achieving huge things.
Craftology by Bolly
Founded in spring of 2020, Craftology by Bolly sell adorable hand-sewn face masks/coverings and handmade earrings. We could all do with a few more masks, as the pandemic continues. And soon, Bolly will be adding more handmade goods to her shop. I’ve seen the sneak previews on their Instagram, and I already can’t wait to place my order.
I’m sure you already know of the incredible Allie’s venture, alongside her sister Sophie. Born from her weekly newsletter, the Slow Living Club, Sunday Living is a stunning independent homeware and lifestyle shop. Stocking everything from gorgeous vases to rattan trays, you’ll want one of everything… and then some. Plus, their Christmas collection has just landed, and lockdown feels like the perfect time to start the decorating as early as the shopping.
Vegan friends, PEP Kitchen has you sorted for emergency food on days when you don’t want to cook. Their range of plant-based ready meals are absolutely delicious. They’re cooked fresh and frozen, ready and heated in 10 minutes, and are a pretty healthy excuse for a ready meal. I know I’m glad to have a few in my freezer drawer right now.
Riva Bee Illustrations
Riva has opened up Christmas commissions for couples’ illustrations, and they’re incredible. Riva is one of Harvey’s friends, and her work is so beautifully intricate and creative. There’s an air of magical realism about her pieces, and they’d make wonderful gifts for someone’s new home. Plus, Riva’s also going to be stocking Christmas clay ornaments, if you like her aesthetic!
Pip & Pine
Another from our flock, our very own Carrie founded Pip & Pine earlier this year, a stunning collection of handcrafted goods made in Brighton. Her original, linocut prints are next-level, a gorgeous take on wall art. The pieces would be perfect to add to glass-backed frames, and all inspired by nature’s very best wonders. I know that we personally can’t wait to display some in our fabled home.
Holistic therapist Emerald Torrus sell reiki-infused jewellery and hand-blended bath soaks. You’ll also find chakra sets, pendants and keyrings, all perfect for the wellbeing friends on your Christmas present list, or as a grounding gift for yourself. Plus, Barrina is the Mama of our favourite Jazzabelle’s Diary!
A Christmas stocking wouldn’t be complete without an abundance of sweet treats, and I’m delighted to have discovered Emily’s Lollies through a friend. Emily makes handcrafted lollies that can even be customised. From sparkles to snowflakes, flowers to letters, her creations are just-right for special occasions. The shop is 5-star food safety-approved, and Emily ships worldwide.
The Winnie Project
To decorate your walls with the most adorable and happiest art, look no further than my friend Winnie’s new shop. The Winnie Project is the work of all of Winnie’s doodles through lockdown and beyond, and features all the best parts of being British-Chinese. There are lucky oranges, mooncakes, Pocky cartons and stunning iterations of Hong Kong.
Lovely Wanders Wedding
Although weddings might be a little touch-and-go at the moment, I wanted to shine a light on Lovely Wanders Wedding, who sell gorgeous décor, favour boxes and other occasion goods for traditional Chinese weddings and rustic white weddings. I’ve always wondered how I’d decorate for my own Chinese wedding given how scarce suppliers are in the UK, and so this is a wonderful idea from fellow blogger Lucy!
Snuggly Duckling Crafts
Based in Singapore, Marissa has started hand-making and selling cruelty-free bar soaps, another necessity during these odd ol’ times that we live in. Her designs are SO cute – cherry blossoms, bears, bees and beyond – and she’ll also be offering UK shipping later this month.
Happy shopping! Let me know if you’ve discovered any new shops to support from this post. Plus, I’ll be sharing more on my Instagram Story Highlights throughout November.
