My Healthy Girl Routine

The first quarter of 2023 has seen me in a partial hibernation, working on myself and establishing some pretty great routines. From having a more positive outlook to feeling healthy and fit, I’m really proud of the rituals and habits that I’ve adopted and – after much back and forth and many Instagram DMs – I’m finally sharing the routine that has hugely changed my life.

Editor’s Note: It’s worth mentioning that this routine is possible since I currently don’t have children and start work at 9.30am, offering me the time and space to squeeze these habits in.

6.15am. Wake up. I previously started my days a little later at 6.30am or even 6.45am, but I’d always wake up before my alarm and now it’s become habit to get up even earlier. I start my morning by hydrating – keep a bottle by your bed! – then letting my dog out in the garden.

6.30am. Vitamins and supplements, and a small pre-workout snack. While I used to work out fasted – i.e. having not eaten at all – I’ve discovered that I perform better having eaten at least something. I’m enjoying a banana or a protein bar, as well as plenty of water. Then, I’ll take my daily multivitamins, pills and supplements. Additionally, I’ve been considering exploring alternative ways to boost my nutrient intake, such as looking into options like vitamin drip in London for a more holistic approach to my wellness routine.

6.35am. Get ready for the gym. A quick and simple skincare routine (as I’ll do a full one post-workout) and then pop my gym kit on. Ten-minute drive to my gym.

7.00am. Gym time. I still workout on all three of my WFH days and also workout once a weekend. Like I’ve said countless times, I love going to the gym because it makes me feel good. I strength train all week, alongside three low-impact cardio sessions and a Barre, yoga or Pilates session at the weekend.

9.00am. Home for a shower, hair wash and skincare routine. Since I wash my hair pretty frequently now, I condition daily and use a hair oil twice weekly. My skincare routine includes a double cleanse, exfoliate, toner, hyaluronic acid, vitamin C serum and SPF.

9.20am. Make breakfast to eat at my desk while I plough through morning emails and admin. Usually this is porridge with almond butter and fruit, sometime it’s a bagel with avocadoes, tomatoes and vegan bacon. Anything for some morning brain food!

9.30am. Begin work.

11.30am. Mid-morning, I tend to start losing focus around this time so I’ll head downstairs and make a protein shake, then grab my journals for a 15-minute break. Screen breaks are really important! Right now I’m enjoying the Form Nutrition Chocolate Hazelnut Performance Protein, my bullet journal and my Mal Paper My Five-Year Story. Writing my thoughts down and capturing my day in my five-year journal has been so beneficial in keeping my mind as clear as possible: I know I won’t forget important tasks, dates or memories.

12.45pm. Lunch break. I’m really strict on taking proper lunch breaks: away from my desk and always with some time outdoors. Get your Hot Girl Walk™ in!

3.30pm. Since I finish work at 6.30pm, it’s time for a short break. Usually this is a screen break so I’ll play with my dog, make a The Beauty Chef Glow drink and eat some fruit to rejuvenate myself. If the workday is less busy, I take Milo out for a short, bonus walk.

6.35pm. Part of my healthy girl routine is to keep to my work hours, especially on WFH days. I finish my day at 6.30pm, then ‘reset’ and clear my desk, and stretch! While I’ve worked out in the morning, sitting all day means I love a good ol’ stretch. If the weather is nice, I’ll pop for a short walk before…

7.30pm. Prepare dinner. Sometimes I’m a meal prep girly, especially since my work hours are long and late, but I find that when I make dinner fresh, it has a huge effect on my brain.

9.45pm. Post-dinner and evening relaxation time (I’ll usually read or catch up with friends), and it’s skincare time. Double cleanse, exfoliate, toner, serum, retinol, eye cream and night mask.

10.00pm. I try to be in bed with a lamp on at 10pm. I’ll pop an episode of whichever show I’m watching on – controversial! Screens before bed! – and wind down before…

11.30pm. Bedtime. It’s not a perfect bedtime, but it works for me!
