Welp, it’s well and truly spring here in England! I’ve been revelling in taking Milo out each morning to be greeted by a plethora of fresh blooms and new floral scents. How are we all taking the hour-less situation? I, for one, am oh so excited to use that bonus hour to devote to blog photos and to begin hanging out in the garden again! Now that I’m without phone, I feel just a touch further away from my fellow bloggers and a touch more motivated than ever to catch up on the week just gone.
Beauty and the Beast
I took Mama Daisy out to see Beauty and the Beast on Monday evening and we absolutely loved it!
Growing up, Beauty and the Beast was my favourite Disney movies and so I felt it apt to take my Mama along as she always did for me. I have fond memories of dressing up as Belle on most weekends, begging my parents to let me watch my battered VHS ‘one more time’ and of singing the songs whilst dancing around the house. I remember being completely enchanted by the Beast’s library and even today dream of owning a library room in my future home!
Today, I find myself especially drawn to Belle as a bookish, kind, trusting Disney girl who, actually, doesn’t need the man to save her. She’s always saved herself and others around her. I was wary of the remake but it absolutely lived up to my expectations and dreams; Emma Watson is just an all-round dream. I cried sparingly throughout the film and fell in love with all of the beautiful dresses, the diversity (although please just throw one Chinese character at me, guys) and the soundtrack. Theatrical as it was, I just loved this remake.
I’ve been especially quiet on the social media front lately as I’m currently phone-less! Right now, I’m on day 13 of my accidental digital detox and it has been quite the wild rollercoaster. I penned a post last night all about the saga and I’ll pop it on the blog next week once I’ve had a chance to sub-edit the copy. Let’s just file the whole debacle as absolute mayhem, shall we? In a way it’s sad how reliant we are on electronics but I’ve learned that it’s just a fallout of life in 2017; if we were all to go up in arms and rebuke the ‘addiction’ to our phones, the world would simply be such a quieter, slower place. And don’t get me started on how much I miss my friends now that I’m sans WhatsApp! It’s romantic and all to say that without phones, we’d be seeing each other more, but real life will continue to be in the way, guys.
I popped into London – yes, sans phone! – on Friday to hang out with my girl Aisling after having not seen her in about a billion years. It was so good to squish her and swap tales of all things work, boys, shopping and more. I feel pretty lucky sometimes that this here blog brought me such awesome friends that’ve celebrated birthdays with me from the age of 21 to 26! Aisling and I grabbed lunch at Farm Girl (post arriving tomorrow!) so we could have an almighty catch-up over obligatory breakfast foods, before getting a touch spend in Selfridges and heading for some frozen yoghurt in our 5(?!)-year-strong tradition. The best tradition, if you ask me. Then I crashed her catch-up drinks with Tanya and we had a delightful evening of sharing stories and catching up over some classic Friday night gin.
The glorification of busy
It’s been another insane working week here at Chez Chai. I’m averaging around 11 hours a day, 6 days a week and it’s beginning to take its toll. I find it incredibly difficult to switch off from work mode, as as soon as I settle down to pop a show on to watch, I get itchy fingers and start checking my emails and such in other tabs. Help. Me. Paired with my current lack of phone, it’s been a stark reminder that we need to stop glorifying being busy. It’s exhausting and draining. Let’s champion working hard and self-caring harder.
Honey + Chai
You might have noticed that things have been a little quieter for my shop, Honey + Chai. I’ve dialled it down just a notch as my copywriting business has soared during this first business quarter but I’ve been working hard on it this past week! I’m hoping to launch a brand new collection very soon as well as introduce some new lines and so I’ve been in and out of meetings with vendors, photographers and models(!!) I feel very positive about Honey + Chai in 2017 and I really hope you’ll all continue to support my little baby.
Oh! And I hope you’re all having a delightful Mother’s Day with your Mama’s!
