Happy, happy Sunday! We made it through another week, and 103 days of lockdown in the UK, and I’m still clinging on. It’s been a really heavy week in my world. The National Security Law passed in Hong Kong and I feel completely lost, silenced and sad. I encourage you to read up on the new laws and the articles, because (currently) they affect everybody in the world who may want to visit Hong Kong. And as my reader, I’m sure you feel an affinity to my favourite city, my second home. As a legal HK resident — I hold dual nationality — it’s put me in a hard place. For now, my content is going to look very jarring to how I actually feel. I don’t know what more to say.
Oddly outside of that, I’ve been feeling pretty positive. I get to go and sit in my boyfriend’s house as of yesterday. (Might cry about it, might not.) I’m back on my endless reading, there’s an update on Animal Crossing: New Horizons to get stuck into, and my creativity is back with a vengeance. Even though it might not be on these digital pages, I’m happy to just be creating again.
Announcing a little secret
A few months ago, when I gained prominence in mainstream media for my comments about racism towards East Asians in the UK in the wake of the pandemic, I was invited to share my stories and opinions for a feature-length documentary. And I’m absolutely thrilled to be finally talking about it with you all! It was incredible to work with BAFTA-winning filmmaker Alex Lockwood and his team. We shot, socially distanced, in a secluded woodland, and I’m so bloody excited. I’m so proud of myself for pushing myself wildly out of my comfort zone — there’s a reason I never talk on Instagram Stories! I’ll share updates about it when I can, but… eeek!! Ya girl’s doing THINGS!
Yoga with Lillian Zahra
Friday marked five blissful weeks since I started practicing yoga with my friend of eight years, Lily. You might know her from her former alias of LilyLipstick, but now she’s a fully fledged, qualified yoga teacher and she is great. I’m so proud of Lily for chasing her dreams because she is SO good at what she does that it seems odd to think of her doing anything else? She’s running online classes (including one-to-one sessions) and I thoroughly recommend checking her out and booking some classes.
Visit Lillian Zahra.
Sinking into new creative hobbies
I mean, it only took me three months, but I finally decided to dO nEw ExCiTiNg ThInGs during lockdown! Whilst I’ve been having the time of my life continuing to journal, make Animal Crossing content and embroider, I felt like I was beginning to stagnate and was pretty much doing the above as a routine. So, I’ve taken up candle-making and it. Is. Fun. I’m so proud of my new lil candle babies sitting in the spare room!
