The Moving Diaries, March 2025

How on earth a month (and more) has already passed since I moved in with my boyfriend, Eddie, is completely beyond me, but here we are. It’s been the most joyful chapter yet and I’m so wondrously happy. I wanted to start these diaries when we moved in but, of course, we’ve been really busy pretty much every moment since I hauled my first box through the doors! Between a busy work schedule, personal appointments, hallowed ‘me time’ and keeping house, I simply hadn’t found the time to rifle through our photos and note down all the details. Plus, I couldn’t work out how or where to share something like this beyond my long-suffering bullet journal (that thing gets all of my secrets and mundane to-do lists).
Our first week

Since I moved from our family home to a house that Eddie owns and lives in, I knew that this would be one of the easiest moves I’ve ever done and used this to my advantage, taking the pressure off entirely. In fact, I packed one suitcase the week of the move, and boxed up my desk essentials on the afternoon of the move! Effectively, I took what I’d need for the the first fortnight and figured I could slowly move everything else over ‘in time’.

Our first focus was tackling the kitchen. We picked up salt and pepper mills, tea and sugar jars, and picked up a new dinnerware set – all things that, somehow, my boyfriend didn’t already have. The kitchen isn’t too dated and we have black worktops with white wood cabinets, a great base! Our new additions are crafted from acacia wood and I chose a swish white reactive glaze dinnerware set. I’m so pleased with them!
A month in
Making a house a home is a long process that tests your patience, and I’d completely forgotten this! I feel like the process of kitting out my Hong Kong apartment was far quicker?! But things are slowly coming together. I always forget how expensive moving is, especially when everything decides to break, too.

This dehumidifier has been our partner-in-crime for late winter.

I’m so happy with how our home is coming together. This month, I’m focusing on getting my library room to a functional level, since it’s where I’ll work from home, and on building my wardrobe so that I have somewhere to store my clothes. You wouldn’t believe it, but my clothes have been in boxes since January! I can’t wait to be able to put outfits together again and not root through boxes for a pair of jeans.
Upcoming projects and tasks
In the lounge, we’ve a few more pieces of old furniture to recycle or donate, and then our next task is to mount the television above the fireplace. All exciting stuff. At some point, I’d like to build some alcove shelving and a little cabinet for this room, and then add an armchair or cuddle seat, but that won’t be for a good couple of months.
After our big trip in May, we’ll also be working on furnishing the guest room, ready for Eddie’s sister to come and stay with us over the summer. I want it to feel clean, fresh and hotel-like, but with fun splashes of colour everywhere. Can’t wait for that fun project!
