The Blush & Gold Wedding Planner Book

When Eddie proposed in Japan, it set off a chain of reactions. Largely, of course, me briefly becoming Monica from Friends and elatedly repeating: ‘I’m engaged! I’m engaged!’ around the city. But, could I even be getting married if I didn’t pick up a dedicated notebook for the occasion? I’m a pen-and-paper person through and through, and I couldn’t wait to return home from Japan, celebrate our engagement with friends and family, then pick up the perfect planning tool. Having been at my friends’ sides as they’ve each planned weddings and married the loves of their lives, I’m really no stranger to the endless bits of wedding stationery in the world. There’s the something blue I gifted my best friend, the big binder for the Monica-esque pal… I settled on something in-between: this gorgeous linen-bound, gold-edged planner book from Blush & Gold.

At £29.95, this book isn’t exactly affordable but, I figured, it’ll make a special keepsake as well as planning tool. The brand also sell baby keepsake books, and regular planners, so perhaps I could one day create a bit of a set for our home bookcase. And, it is truly beautiful with a lovely tactile cover, ribbon page-savers and gold edges. If you’re considering investing in this planner, here are all the features to help you with your decision.

The design

There’s no doubt that this is a beautiful book: the linen-bound cover means it’ll look pretty on your coffee table as well as in the bookcase long after the wedding day. I’m a huge typeface nerd and I adore the elegant but minimal serif fonts they’ve chosen. This feels like a timeless keepsake. The planner comes beautifully encased in tissue paper and a to-size cardboard box, and they include a note about how to look after your planner. There’s even a ‘pen test’ sheet so that you can check your pen won’t bleed through the page! I really appreciated these thoughtful added touches.

The contents

I’ve never planned a wedding before – and hope to only do so once! – yet this planner book feels like it really covers all bases. There’s a chunky month-per-page calendar to start with space for up to 18 months, perfect for mapping out all your upcoming venue viewings, bridal gown fittings, caterer meetings, etc. Then, there’s dedicated pages for everything from dress style decisions to table and seating plans, menu selections to vendor details. Then, there’s gold stickers for the calendar, marking everything from ‘I said yes to the dress!’ to ‘Pay final deposit’. It is perfectly considered from start to finish. The paperweight is perfectly creamy and thick without being too thick and hard to turn the page or use.

How I plan to use it

Everybody I’ve spoken to has already dashed my hopes by telling me there’s no way I’ll actually use this planner book, since it’s easier to make a spreadsheet. Sure, we’ve already made a budget spreadsheet and signed up to Hitched.co.uk, but I do know that I’m a pen-and-paper person! I keep budgets, notes, plans and more in my precious notebooks even though spreadsheets and Google Calendar exists! However, as a caveat, I actually plan to use my wedding planner book as a memory-keeper, scrapbook and planner. I want to paste inspiration photos and moodboards, I’ll add our wedding photos when all is said and done. I want to paste in receipts and appointment cards and swing tags and stationery samples. I want to be able to look back in this book on our first, tenth, fifteenth wedding anniversary and be instantly transported to this entirely unique, irreplaceable moment in our lives.

Also, it’ll be pretty funny to look back at what we thought our budget would be, right?
