Happy Friday! And hello summer! I am overjoyed that the sun has come back around; we’re hoping to head out for a picnic this weekend to bask in the sun with Milo and get some much-needed miles in on the ol’ Wizards Unite. This week, well fortnight, has been a far cry from the last. It’s involved plenty of rest and reading, plenty of time with pals and so much reality TV viewing that you’d think I was a teenager again.
There’s a lot to be said for appreciating the smaller, not necessarily finer details of the everyday mundane. Here’s to another list of petite joys, the moments that’ve brought and woven poetry to my days, this fortnight:
一. An American Marriage by Tayari Jones. I’ve raced through this novel at lightning speed this week, because Jones’ storytelling is just mesmerising. The story details an American couple who are cruelly torn apart by a wrongful incarceration, and how it affects their marriage. Jones’ writing style is a true delight to read and it is incredibly evocative. I’ve found myself laughing, smiling, crying and ultimately rooting for all of the characters, at different times. You should absolutely read this, this summer.
二. My new Friday by JW Pei Envelope Crossbody Bag! It’s made from vegan leather (recycled plastic bottles, not just your bog-standard PVC).
三. Our Love Island viewing routine. It’s been so good to completely unwind with frivolous, good-for-nothing TV.
四. Discovering the 88 Cups of Tea podcast. They feature authors from all backgrounds and it is so wonderfully diverse, inspiring and fascinating. Plus, it’s hosted by Yin Chang, who played Nelly Yuki in Gossip Girl. I’m obsessed.
五. Getting that spark of creative inspiration once more, after almost a fortnight of no new photos shot and no personal writing complete!
六. Getting outdoors every lunchtime to play Wizards Unite.
八. The sheer nostalgia of The Hills: New Beginnings. I am totally rooting for Audrina and Justin Bobby!
九. My hot water bottle; a.k.a. my only saviour this week.
What’re some of your petite joys, lately?
