Petite joys

England’s heatwave this week has completely knocked me for six! I’ve not experienced this sort of heat since my fabled commutes in Hong Kong. In fact, I took the opportunity to crack out my HK survival kit for my train and Tube journeys. I just about survived to tell the tale.

As such, this week’s ‘Petite joys’ post is very clearly themed around ‘feeling okay in the heat’! Concerns about climate change aside (in fact they’re nearly almost welcome after news that Boris Johnson has secured the role as new PM…), it’s been a balmy, oh so delicious week.

There’s a lot to be said for appreciating the smaller, not necessarily finer details of the everyday mundane. Here’s to another list of petite joys, the moments that’ve brought and woven poetry to my days, this fortnight:

一. A week of consistently wearing my spring/summer wardrobe!

二. The Coconut Collaborative’s Dark Choc Pots! Absolutely delicious and a brilliant treat for Love Island hour.

三. ‘Three Women’ by Lisa Taddeo. Guys, this book is so worth its hype. It’s a non-fiction serialised masterpiece documenting three women and their love and sex lives.

四. A delicious lunch at Ghenet’s pad. We had such a fun afternoon hanging out with Ghenet, her husband and little Rex, along with shooting a little somethin’ somethin’ for the blog.

五. Evening runs with my sister. We’re still powering on with Couch to 5k and it’s so lovely to make extra use of the light evenings. It’s definitely getting tougher now though!

六. The Taylor Swift announcement!! Duh! I’ll never stop supporting this gal, even if she can be occasionally problematic. I’ve been a huge TS fan since I was 17 and her music always transports me precisely back to oh so particular chapters in my life. Track 5 is a long-standing fan tradition and The Archer is bloody incredible!

七. I’ve been obsessively listening to ‘Berkhamsted Revisited’ recently because it is the ultimate in nostalgia. The hosts (both Laura!) read out Laura’s diary and remember all of the hilarity that came with being an angsty teen in the Noughties. As I also grew up in Hertfordshire during the same period, it is OH so relatable!

八. Adding the new Love & Lemons recipe book to my stash. I’ve already made the Chimichurri Potato Salad and it was delicious. Totally recommend this one for vegans and vegetarians.

九. Lunchtime strolls in the London sunshine. Dry sunny warmth is great.

十. Feeling equally creative and well-supported by my main client. It’s been amazing being able to bounce ideas off colleagues in a real office!
