Petite joys

It feels like an absolute AGE since I last shared one of these ‘Petite joys’, gratitude list posts, and looking back, I suppose it has been! In fact, it’d been so long that last week I took it upon myself to start logging some in my bullet journal again. (I’ve been so slack with the bullet journalling recently and doesn’t my cluttered head know it!) I’m sure it’ll come as no surprise when I say that the turn of the seasons always fills my cup with plenty of inspiration and motivation. In fact, it probably does so more than the fabled September start or the promise of a brand new year.

Although it is the ultimate cliche to begin declaring that ‘autumn is my favourite season!!1!’ and so on, I think as I’ve gotten older it’s become evident that it’s the turn in seasons I adore the most. Seeing the natural world change before my eyes and feel the certain chill (or warmth) set in is just a joy and a pleasure, too.

There’s a lot to be said for appreciating the smaller, not necessarily finer details of the everyday mundane. Here’s to another list of petite joys, the moments that’ve brought and woven poetry to my days, this fortnight:

一. Rain-kissed windowpanes and flickering candlelight, a marriage of magic when caught together.

二. An oat flat white from my favourite local coffee shop. You must must visit Chia Naturally Healthy if you’re ever near Hitchin!

三. Mist hovering just-so in the mornings, hanging across fields enveloped in frost.

四. Running through piles of crunchy leaves with Dad no less, twenty-something years into tradition.

五. Re-starting the A Song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones) book series all over again! I’ve started to reread the series from the start and I already love it more than the first time. Plus, it’s helping to ease the pain of how disappointing I found the season and series finale.

六. Tomato and basil soup with oat cream swirled in, and sourdough to dunk. Delish!

七. Making plenty of plans with plenty of friends! My diary is jam-packed!

八. A successful, productive and all-round inspiring mentor session with a new client. I was so nervous about it — it was my first one, and an ‘unofficial’ one at that — but I’m just thrilled about how it went and I can’t wait to begin booking in some business and writing mentoring clients properly next year.

九. Pup walks in the autumn chill. Bloody freezing, but oh so worth it to see Milo frolicking about at his favourite park.

十. My first Barre class in nine months! We’re back in business baby… and the post-pulse shakes are real.
