Petite joys
In the blink of an eye, it’ll be Christmas. In fact, this will be the last ‘Petite joys’ post of the year. It feels odd to write that, but I’m also thoroughly excited for my annual digital wind-down. These posts have truly got me through 2020 and, from your comments, it seems like they’ve done the same for you. I tend to pick 10 of my more shareable joys from a list that I write in my bullet journal; it feels special to read them back and notice all the wonderful little things that make up one grateful life. It’s odd to look at January and realise how different our everyday was back then. Really strange.
There’s a lot to be said for appreciating the smaller, not necessarily finer details of the everyday mundane. Here’s to another list of petite joys, the moments that’ve brought and woven poetry to my days, this fortnight:
一. A fresh Yuyu hot water bottle for a brief respite from my back pains.
二. Finally making big decisions that were inevitable, yet I’d been putting off. (I’ve closed my copywriting business, in favour of adhoc contracts!)
三. A cup o’ coffee brought to me in bed, by Dad. Oh the perks of living at home and being a Daddy’s girl!
四. Fresh gel nails at last. Lockdown 2.0 did my nails no favours at all, but my nails are trimmed down and freshly lacquered with hand-painted candy cane nail art.
五. How good it feels to let yourself be vulnerable and open up, on Instagram, to a therapist, to friends.
六. The gentle crackle of an & Chai candle burning away. But I could be biased!
七. The tingly excitement ahead of a Taylor Swift album drop!!
八. Celebrating a month in business with vegan melt-in-the-middle chocolate puddings (from The Coco Collaborative!) and Alpro custard.
九. Sinking into soft bedsheets pre-warmed by a hot water bottle.
十. A glass of cold Vimto.
What’re some of your petite joys lately?
