At this time of year, there’s no shortage of big or small joys. From Christmas lights twinkling just-so everywhere you glance to the collective excitement that it’s wholly acceptable to snack on festive treats already, this time of year is sometimes even greater than Christmas itself. November is my favourite month for many reasons, and this fortnight has really served to remind me of why.
There’s a lot to be said for appreciating the smaller, not necessarily finer details of the everyday mundane. Here’s to another list of petite, open-hearted joys, the moments that’ve brought and woven poetry to my days, this fortnight:
一. My refreshed working-from-home routine and set-up. I’m grateful that I have a great space to work in, and for the relaxed routine it affords me.
二. Our Chai family evening out to Kew Gardens last week. The perfect, festive adventure and a really nice way to celebrate my parents’ wedding anniversary as well.
三. Late autumn strolls at the lake with a Red (Taylor’s Version) soundtrack playing through one ear (for safety!). I just adore this album more and more. Even better when I get to crunch my way through leaf piles beside the water.
四. Cosy hours before bed, playing Animal Crossing: Happy Home Paradise. This expansion is absolutely everything! I’m revelling in playing the game and DLC deliciously slowly, collecting new items and recipes slowly and working towards some stretch goals.
五. A festive date day in London; our first of hopefully many. To put it simply, it was the best. And that’s that on that!
六. Frost-tipped grass, first thing in the morning. Best viewed from firmly inside the house.
七. Sister date night. We delivered orders, then ordered Korean food and watched the third The Princess Switch film which was completely bonkers in a very great way.
八. Christmas shopping! Even though, yes, it might be a touch stressful, it’s been so fun to pick up gifts for the little ones and start prepping for my favourite time of the year.
九. Sinking my ‘first coffee of the day’ at 8pm on a Sunday evening. We live life wildly here.
十. Carving out time, this week, for Barre classes and plenty of book reading, a.k.a. my two favourite pastimes lately. It’s okay not to do it all.
What’re some of the little joys in your life lately?
