Our Stay at a Treehouse!

It’s been a while since I stayed anywhere that wasn’t home. But for my 31st birthday this month, my boyfriend surprised me with a night away at a treehouse! And we had the best time. More unusual stays are definitely on my radar after two years forcibly not travelling, and our night at the Squirrel Run on North Hill Farm fully scratched that itch.

When I shared a few photos of our stay on Instagram, I was flooded with comments and messages telling me you’d booked a getaway too, so I thought I’d collate all of my thoughts with a concise review of our glamping experience at North Hill Farm.

Location

North Hill Farm is tucked away in Chorleywood, Hertfordshire. We drove by car, as we’re local in Hertfordshire, but there’s train and Tube access and you could easily take a taxi there. There’s five glamping spots; my boyfriend opted for Squirrel Run, a fully equipped, self-catered treehouse accommodation. I know. And the farm itself is surrounded by beautiful countryside, a disc golf course, a running stream, and the Chorleywood House Estate. We love going on country walks, so it was absolutely perfect for a relaxing trip away. We’ve also discussed returning with friends, as the other glamping accommodations are somewhat close, making it perfect to ‘glamp’ without getting completely on top of each other. (The Owl’s Lookout is especially cute!)

Amenities

Like I mentioned, glamping at North Hill Farm is self-catered. Squirrel Run has full heating, so it’s a cosy little stay, and there’s also a fridge, microwave and kettle inside. If you’re so inclined, there’s a TV with a CD/DVD player, and the WiFi is pretty great. Just below of the treehouse, there’s a wood-burning pizza oven and firepit – we want to come back in the summer and enjoy al fresco pizza sans rain! There’s also the option to prebook breakfast or Prosecco hampers, and you can even order takeaways, you’d just need to head back to the main reception building to meet the delivery driver.

Squirrel Run also has an outdoor waterfall shower, and the cosiest little hot tub for two. It was the perfect size for us, but we’re fairly petite, which is something to note.

Our Highlights

I’m so tempted to say our entire trip was a highlight! We honestly had such a lovely time. It was unbelievably cosy to hang out in the balcony hot tub all evening, listening to the rain, and watch the stars show up with an expanse of field just before us. And, waking up to the same view was unreal. It’s a great getaway from the everyday mundane. What we also enjoyed was that it’s family-run, so checking in was a breeze with a lovely, friendly person, and you feel like you’re really in safe hands.

Overall Thoughts

As you can guess from the constant praise-singing throughout this review, we loved our stay and were already making plans to return while enjoying our afternoon walk. From the undoubtedly unique treehouse experience to our welcome chocolates and Prosecco, the gorgeous al fresco area downstairs to the cosy hot tub, we absolutely loved our stay. North Hill Farm also has a heavy emphasis on Harry Potter-themed stays (there’s a Hagrid’s hut!) as it’s a stone’s throw from the Studio Tour, if you’re so inclined. But outside of that, it really does make a wonderful getaway from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
