Open-hearted joys 開開心心 29

Ever sit and wonder just how your life came to be a certain way? I’m not sure if it’s because we’re reaching the midway point of the year, but I’m feeling especially reflective and pensive at the moment. It feels like there’s lots of big things happening at the moment, and that the world wants everything to be bigger and better on repeat again, but I’m still happily embracing the small things, the little joys.

There’s a lot to be said for appreciating the smaller, not necessarily finer details of the everyday mundane. Here’s to another list of petite, open-hearted joys, the moments that’ve brought and woven poetry to my days, this fortnight:

一. Dewy morning walks with my Milo. Just us and the blissfully quiet outdoors.

二. The just-so graininess of book pages between your fingers – a grounding feeling.

三. Our family day out at Kew Gardens for Father’s Day. We had so much fun admiring plants, making Chai family jokes and chatting away just the five of us.

四. How great it feels to light a candle and sink into a good book after the Sunday reset cleaning session.

五. Journalling after work. Mental clarity feels so good.

六. The unmatched serotonin coursing through your body when the Love Island opening theme comes on.

七. Spy x Family! I’m really not ready for the season finale this weekend…

八. Evenings spent listening to lo-fi beats and setting up my new bullet journal. It feels like a great time for new beginnings.

九. Catching up with friends on long, meandering phonecalls.

十. Hearing that some of my latest work was the best-performing this month!

What’re some of the little joys in your life lately?
