Open-hearted joys 開開心心 40
After a declared extended break that I quickly returned from, who would’ve thought we’d be on our second post of the week with a third coming on Sunday?! It turns out that distance makes the heart grow fonder and I have been itching to share this edition of ‘Open-hearted joys’ with you all. The New Year start felt like a great recalibration for me and between snug weekends at home and upcoming busier ones exploring new-to-us cities, I’m feeling really excited for 2023.
There’s a lot to be said for appreciating the smaller, not necessarily finer details of the everyday mundane. Here’s to another list of petite, open-hearted joys, the moments that’ve brought and woven poetry to my days, this fortnight:

一. Our bookstagram community! It’s what has sparked a love for that darned app again, since we all have something in common on there and there’s plenty to talk about all the time. My personal account might be waning and borderline finsta, but Daisybutter Book Café is thriving. I love it.
二. The 15 minutes or so that I spend journalling before work. It isn’t every day, but I always value this time when I feel like I need it. Introspection is important.
三. An afternoon of annual leave spent writing my – our – favourite recipes into my beloved Papier Recipe Journal. Someday, I hope to pass it down to my future children, so they can discover all of the meals we prepared, cooked and ate.
四. Feeling happy, loved and balanced every day.
五. Putting my 2023 vision board together. It felt good to take stock of what I’m hoping to achieve this year. I think I’ve created vision boards for a good four years now, and it’s one of my favourite ‘New Year start’ activities.
六. Drinking warm water, instead of cold. I’m levelling up into Asian Granny.
七. Starting my day at the gym with my boyfriend.
八. Gorgeous pale crème roses on my desk: a New Year’s Day midnight surprise.
九. Working on Lunar New Year content at work. Feels good to be able to apply my heritage and culture to all corners of my life. And I can’t wait to share the feature with you all!
十. My new candle: the Overose Pain au Chocolat scent.
What are some of the little joys in your life lately?
