Petite joys
Happy Friday! I’ve pre-written this post as right now, I’m in Edinburgh celebrating Harvey’s 29th birthday (which is today!). It feels like it’s been ages since my last ‘Petite joys’ post but I’m thrilled to be back. I even dithered about switching this feature out, but I knew that wouldn’t be right. It’s been such a great fortnight (and a bit; I’ve included love notes from Christmas) and even greater to spend some time ruminating over the ones to share today.
There’s a lot to be said for appreciating the smaller, not necessarily finer details of the everyday mundane. Here’s to another list of petite joys, the moments that’ve brought and woven poetry to my days, this fortnight:
一. The joy on my nieces’ faces as they opened their Christmas presents. Ditto that for my little sister and Dad, who received matching Hunter boots from Harvey and I.
二. Harvey’s Mum’s (Mum’s) tomato gravy smothering my Christmas dinner. So good!
三. Beautifully crisp dog walks to the farms and back. I’m not sure why they feel so much sweeter on this end of winter, but I’m not complaining.
四. The obligatory ‘You’ marathon on Boxing Day. Is this… a new festive tradition?!
五. Feeling on top of my task list for once. (Mainly because it’s the New Year and not because I’m suddenly Superwoman!)
六. The second cup of tea of the day. No sugar, a splash of oat milk. Much, much better than the first.
七. Making plans with best friends.
八. My hours (two) of reading before and after work, accompanied by a coffee (always) and often a Spotify playlist.
九. A particularly kind DM sent via Instagram; a welcome note of gratitude amongst the constant flurry of posts and vies for attention.
十. The moment when Lucy Watson likes your post on Instagram.
What’re some of your petite joys, lately?
