Open-hearted joys 開開心心 58

This fortnight has been an odd one and I’m scheduling this at the last minute, as I’ve been away, exploring gorgeous Croatia with my boyfriend. I’m so grateful to have travelled more this year – almost feels like pre-pandemic times again! And, last week, I wrapped up at my old job and it brought forth all the emotions. So, all in all, a bit of a discombobulated fortnight!

There’s a lot to be said for appreciating the smaller, not necessarily finer, details of the everyday mundane. Here’s to another list of petite, open-hearted joys, the moments that’ve brought and woven poetry to my days, this fortnight:

一. Wrapping up my final week at work. Although incredibly bittersweet, I’m certainly ready to embrace a new chapter. Also: leaning into some post-role journalling of my own accord, which has me feeling excited, not nervous, for my new role.

二. A leaving lunch with one of my colleagues. I’m not one for big group ‘dos and it was so nice to have a little one-on-one farewell, over good food and all of the personal conversations and big life advice.

三. Perfecting my ‘easy’ aubergine, tofu and lentil mince stir-fry. My go-to weeknight dinner.

四. Bumping into my brother, his fiancée and their puppy at the train station en route home! My brother is one of my best friends and it always lifts my spirits to see him.

五. Some really good weeks of reading. Everything is clicking, you know?

六. The last of the sunlight filtering through dusty, spider web-stained windowpanes in the late afternoon.

七. Celebrating my last day in the most fitting way: a solo dinner date at one of my favourite London restaurants, accompanied by a book. Solo date blog post is coming soon, I promise!

八. Working on my Autumn Winter 2023 wardrobe. I’ve listed a few pieces on my Vinted, to make way for some new-to-me items.

九. When you have just the right amount of ingredients to make all of your meals for the week. Ecstatic at not having to make random leftovers mini meals, or find space in my freezer.

十. Four-and-a-bit days exploring Croatia with my love. Always grateful for what travel brings me.

What is a small joy from your week?
