Our Long Weekend in the Cotswolds
At the end of the June, we celebrated Eddie’s 35th birthday in the Cotswolds. Country retreats and out-of-city living seems to be really popular at the moment, and we’ve been itching to explore the Cotswolds for a while. We’re running out of country pubs to discover in our corner of England!
So, I booked us a long weekend at a gorgeous cottage in Little Tew.
We also hired a car for the weekend, since my car was out of service. (Long story, no I won’t be telling it!) This turned out to be perfect, as there wasn’t an EV charger at the cottage, and there’s quite a lot of driving around in this area. A typical Cotswold village will likely only house homes, a church and a telephone box if you’re lucky, so you’ll need a car to drive to pubs, restaurants, shops and other amenities.

The cottage was absolutely beautiful. Hosted by David and Katie on their own property, The Granary was perfectly decorated and the perfect space for our stay. They even left us breakfast essentials from local farm shops! You have access to their gardens as well, which we would’ve indulged in had there not been a sweltering heatwave.

Lunch at The Falkland Arms, a 16th-century pub. Loved the ambience and food here!

We went for a walk at an old quarry, and the sunshine was just beautiful.

Finishing our days with bubble baths was such an indulgent way to really slow down.

A morning at Bourton-on-the-Water. I’d recommend coming here early, as it gets really busy! A beautiful village with a stream running through it, and plenty of ice-cream stands to indulge in.

We headed over to Stow-on-the-Wold afterwards, which was a sweet surprise! It’s abundant in history and there’s a little more to see and do here, including seeing the Tolkien trees.

Celebrating Eddie’s birthday with a delicious roast dinner at Sheep on Sheep Street.

A cheeseboard evening ‘at home’. I brought my own vegan cheese from La Fauxmagerie and packed it in a cooler from actual home.

Exploring Broadway Tower for gorgeous views and a much-needed ginger ale in the sun.
