Postcards from Amsterdam (May 2026)
This May, my little sister turned 30! And I knew that I wanted to treat her to a trip of some sort to celebrate a whole new decade. Since Louise isn’t a huge fan of flying, I decided to choose somewhere that we could go via Eurostar and eventually settled on Amsterdam due to its close proximity, and its stunning canal houses that I knew she’d love. I’ve already visited Amsterdam, so have now updated my Daisybutter City Guide with our new finds and recommendations. And, now, please enjoy some of our travel photos from a lovely girls’ getaway weekend!

We spent plenty of time traversing the canals and admiring the stunning 17th-century canal houses. Built on stilts, these houses are part of Amsterdam’s intricate history, and we loved peeking at them all. My sister is an architecture graduate, so she loved seeing them!

The main part of the canals are known as The 9 Streets, and they’re full of buzzy cafés, restaurants and independent boutiques. Queuing for CHUN was 110% worth it – these super-expensive toasties were delicious and I loved the ambience inside.

Off the beaten path, we found this little neighbourhood café that had no social media presence, but plenty of regular café-goers chatting to the owner. Sold! My matcha was delicious, and I even grabbed a delicious roast veggie toastie. The perfect pitstop after travelling on the Eurostar.

One of my favourite museums ever, we of course went to Rijksmuseum to peek at Petronella Ottoman’s dollhouse, swoon at the Research Library, and marvel at the Delftware. I could spent hours at this museum.
