Petite joys

Finally, after an entire day of rushing to and fro – the Post Office to the sorting office, my barre studio to my desk – it’s time to make note of the joys in my life right now. And it couldn’t come at a greater time! January is always full of pressures, pressure to make changes, pressure to shake things up, pressure to start afresh.

To be quite honest, I had no intention to change things too greatly for 2018, I just loved the notion of beginning everything on a clean slate: the 1st falling on a Monday, the chance to scribble in a new diary. This week, I just rolled with the week and embraced work, leisure and family time, something I strive to do. I worked on trying not to let ‘busy’ define my week, even though my bullet journal would tell you otherwise.

There’s a lot to be said for appreciating the smaller, not necessarily finer details of the everyday mundane. Here’s to another list of petite joys, the things that have brought a moment of happiness to my week, this week:

一. Driving home beneath a star-kissed sky. I’m not really one for going out after-dark (if ever!) but Dad’s been working for a friend lately and as we share a car, I’ve been picking him up in the evenings. Armed with my Yuyu hot water bottle, it’s so lovely to drive underneath the stars and chatter away with Dad about all sorts of things. He told me of his ‘emigrating to England’ story the other night and I couldn’t believe I didn’t know about it before. Love your parents and ask them everything.

二. My bullet journal! I shared a post all about my bullet journal last week and it was SO well-received. This week I’ve really got to grips with some (genuinely useful) trackers and collections – let me know if you’d like some regular bullet journal updates. If so, how often?

三. Pasta bake for dinner. Because, well, pasta.

四. My girl Elodie is back in town and I’m excited about it! We’re celebrating Sophie’s birthday (albeit a week late; we were waiting for maximum squad numbers) at Homeslice tonight and then we’ll be heading to brunch tomorrow morning. YAY!

五. Whilst working in-house with one of clients this week, I’ve been really getting into the One Girl Band podcast. You can read more about what OGB encompasses here, but the gist of the podcast is short episodes that serve as miniature pep talks for female entrepreneurs and creatives. Love. It. Great for a Monday afternoon pick-me-up when you feel like you might drown in emails and negativity.

六. My business website has had a little refresh! I’m now fully booked until April 2018, but am still taking enquiries for future projects. If you, or the company you work for, perhaps, are after somebody to take on some copywriting or content-related projects, I’m your girl! Additionally, I have very excitingly launched two (so far) products that you can buy from the Tartle shop! Visit us here and browse the shop here. As always, if you have any questions, drop them to me on the site.

七. Spare afternoons spent reading British Vogue from cover to cover, an oat milk coffee to the side.

八. Yesterday’s dog walk around the lake and meeting an adorable Bichon cross named Bobo.

九. I picked up a new KeepCup this week and can’t wait to start using it. I picked up the Brew Cork Edition in the Fika colour way and 12oz/340ml size. It’s made from fully tempered sofa lime glass with a natural cork band with a beautiful dove grey (almost blue) lid. SO bloody pretty. Save the turtles!

十. Tiny, tiny flowers sprouting from my cacti!! Yes!

What’re some of your petite joys, lately?
