Petite joys
It’s only been two weeks since I last shared a ‘Petite joys’ post and life as we knew it has already changed so much. My sister and I were chatting on Sunday about our month’s round-up and it felt bizarre to think we started March celebrating my birthday and running errands for the house, and ended it at an almost complete standstill. I could parrot some more things about how great it can be to slow down once in a while, but I’ve personally reached a stage where I’m mourning what we all had before (COVID-19), because it’s sinking in that nothing can and will be the same after.
We’re now just over a week and a half into self-isolation and lockdown in the UK and I’ve basically been a lazy egg the whole time. Damn I’ve played a lotta Animal Crossing: New Horizons. I’ve been horizontal a LOT. I’ve spent so much time on video calls.
There’s a lot to be said for appreciating the smaller, not necessarily finer details of the everyday mundane. Here’s to another list of petite joys, the moments that’ve brought and woven poetry to my days, this fortnight:
一. Welcoming Kiki to my Animal Crossing: New Horizons island! She’s one of my faves!
二. Dad’s homemade vegan sambal chilli. Sooo good added to almost every dish.
三. Morning birdsong, reminding me that at least someone is enjoying the beauty of the outdoor world.
四. Video calls with my love. It’s been a long, hard couple of weeks without Harvey here. He picked up a cough about three weeks ago so self-isolated, and then lockdown was imposed on us!
五. Hanging art and other knick-knacks in my bedroom!
六. Not feeling guilty about being indoors. The homebody in me adores stretches of time spent pottering at home.
七. How satisfying it is to pierce the film of a fresh instant coffee pot. (We were making Dalgona coffee!)
八. HAND CREAM. I s2g I will never neglect this part of my beauty regimen again.
九. Hearing the gentle pitter-patter of rainfall on the windowpanes in-game on Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Nintendo did NOT skimp on the details, no siree!
十. Taking virtual gym classes! It’s been a wild ride, but we’re getting there. I might even take this week’s Barre class in the garden!
What are some of your petite joys, lately?
