Week two of lockdown, complete! And it’s been a pretty tricky one for me. I’m incredibly lucky that I still have my part-time job (I work in digital editorial and copywriting, and none of my team or colleagues in the wider business are being furloughed), and two clients in my own business. Whilst it means my week is still fairly busy, I guess I’ve been… struggling? My client roster isn’t to the capacity is was before, leaving many hours for me to sit and stew. I don’t do well in quiet periods, preferring to be busy at my own pace, if that makes sense. Reading the news is hard and hearing stories about COVID-19 cases that are close to home is harder. I’m limited my social media usage at the moment which has hugely helped, but I also miss the escapism that can come with using social media.
Le sigh.
How are you?
First things first, how are you? I hope you’re keeping well and staying safe. How are you finding this odd period of time? What have you been eating? I don’t want to overwhelm anybody — especially myself! — with asking what you’re all getting up to, because I know I’m getting up to almost nothing. Let me know in the comments (or an email, if you’d prefer) how you’re doing.
Isolation activities
On that note, I’m up to nothing. I’m doing… fine. Not bad, not great. Like I said earlier, I struggled this week but right now I’m keeping my head above water, and trying to focus on the present. Although I’ve worked from home for many years now, I feel that there’s been a shift. We’re now all trying to work amongst a global pandemic and a time of extreme disruption and uncertainty for everybody. I’m not able to go about my usual working day, I can’t run the errands I usually would, and although two weeks ago I began a ‘master to-do list’ full of the things I would do post-isolation, I’ve pretty much scrapped it. These are shaky times, and we won’t go back to how things were before. That’s a really hard pill to swallow.
So, I’m laying down a lot. I’m playing my Nintendo Switch. I’m breathing huge gulps of fresh air in the garden we’re so lucky to have. I’m walking Milo. I’m putting make-up on twice a week (Monday and Friday, for no particular reason!). I’m journalling a little. I’m not really reading because I can’t concentrate. I’m drinking water. And that’s about it!
If you’re also not doing much, here’s your reminder that it’s completely okay.
I’m hosting weekly Animal Crossing: New Horizons island parties!
Last but certainly not least, my minute contribution to helping to cultivate community spirit during these strange times… I’m hosting weekly island parties on Animal Crossing: New Horizons! Every Tuesday and Saturday evening at 8.30pm BST, I’ll be sharing Dodo Codes with eight people and we can hang out on my island. I’m trying to work out some sort of goody bag system, but all you need to do is ask me for the code either in my blog comments, on Twitter or on Instagram. See you there!
My April To-do List
Like many other people, my March to-do list royally went up the spout. I managed to tick eight of the ten things off, and only missed out on speaking to the bank and hanging out with Winnie, both of which were beyond my control from mid-month onwards. Nevertheless, these fun to-do lists are great for setting more random, arbitrary goals, so here are mine for April!
- Finally paint the bit under my plug socket that I forgot to.
- Run a bubble bath and enjoy a comforting soak.
Host one (or more!) Animal Crossing: New Horizons Island parties with my Instagram gang.- Donate to a charity that supports the vulnerable during this time.
- Write and finish another chapter of my book.
- Unpack and change the backplate and joycon covers of my Nintendo Switch.
Start reading Tai-Pan by James Clavell.- Try a new-to-me recipe.
- Do a free online course to develop my skillset.
- Film and upload a new IGTV video.
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention: I’m writing a (*cough* two) book(s)!
