Petite joys

Whew! It has been a hot minute since I last shared a ‘Petite joys’. If I’m honest, I didn’t give myself much room to seek out any joy with all of the monstrosities going on in the world. But throughout the years, these posts (and my offline journal that documents these fully) has been a blanket of comfort, especially when things might not feel joyful.

There’s a lot to be said for appreciating the smaller, not necessarily finer details of the everyday mundane. Here’s to another list of petite joys, the moments that’ve brought and woven poetry to my days, this fortnight:

一. Always, the first cup of coffee in the morning, and the second cup of tea in the day. They just hit differently.

二. Finally finding a glimmer of inspiration to create content and plan a home shoot for the blog! I feel like I’ve really lost a sense of who I am and who I am online recently, but hopefully things are finally back on the up.

三. Seeing a 5-figure word count in my writing document! It felt so unachievable last year, and yet here we are.

四. We made this Vegan Tandoori Tofu for dinner a few nights ago, and it was delicious! Super simple to make and pretty affordable as well.

五. Being able to socially distance-visit Harvey in his garden. I mean, it still sucks, but at least now I can see him in person!

六. Hosting mini island parties on Animal Crossing: New Horizons for my Discord community. It’s been the best escape for me, and I just adore everyone on there.

七. How happy Milo is every time one of us in the house is a) dressed, and b) standing near the front door. We took him for his first lockdown groom yesterday too, and he is now finally a soft, non-matted boy again.

八. The inspiring, relentless energy of almost everybody, as we finally take real action in the Black Lives Matter movement.

九. Writing sessions in the conservatory when it’s raining just overhead. That delicious tap-tap-tapping as thick droplets rain down.

十. Starting 1-1 yoga sessions with Lily, via Zoom! I’m SO proud of her for chasing her dreams and become a yoga instructor, and her classes are expectedly amazing. You can book an online class with her here.

What’re some of your petite joys, lately?
