Petite joys

You know it’s a British summer when it reaches the end of July and everybody is complaining that it’s, y’know, hot and summery. I personally have been revelling in the constant sunshine and tropical weather. So we now need three showers a day and drink our recommended daily intake of water, but isn’t it lovely not to worry about whether or not to take a jacket out ‘just in case’ and be able to eat outdoors all the time?! The heat reminds me of my time in Hong Kong without the humidity and I am HERE FOR IT.

There’s a lot to be said for appreciating the smaller, not necessarily finer details of the everyday mundane. Here’s to another list of petite joys, the moments that’ve brought and woven poetry to my days, this week:

一. The iced oat milk latte that I make each morning to wake myself up. I simply make an espresso in my coffee machine, stir in a heaped teaspoon of Demerara sugar, fill my tumbler with ice and top up with oat milk. Delish! If you don’t have a coffee machine, then might I suggest two teaspoons of instant coffee granules dissolved in just enough boiling water to cover them?

二. Linen. Clothing. I’ve become my Mum. Why are linen clothes so light and breezy?!

三. Watching the progress of Dad’s hydrangea in the garden. So beautiful.

四. A delicious catch-up meal with Elodie, Hannah, Sarah and Sophie last night! We went to Bao in Fitzrovia, London and feasted on all the Taiwanese food, before taking a stroll to our beloved Selfridges.

五. MAMMA MIA 2. A.k.a. a cinematic dream.

六. Starting to prep notes for my stint as a lecturer in October! It’s definitely going to push me out of my comfort zone, but I’m super excited.

七. Finally understanding how to use Lightroom to my personal advantage and having a small library of presets that I’ve made myself! My Instagram photos are currently edited with Lightroom and I love the effect.

八. Having my nails done at Cheeky for the first time in MONTHS. I’ve never been the sort of person that gets their nails done on the reg, but it’s such an indulgence and I genuinely feel like a new woman!

九. Attack on Titan is back. That’s all.

十. An impromptu mid-week date night with Daisybf. Counting down the days until we live together…!
