Open-hearted joys 開開心心 100
Happy Friday, my loves!
Whenever my week is disrupted from its usual rhythms and rituals, I surprise myself with how pliable I’ve learned to become in my thirties. I’m a creature of habit, an eldest daughter that loves routine, but the best thing that the pandemic taught me is to be more receptive of whatever is going on around me. This week, my team at my day job moved to a temporary office space and disruption was the main theme. Out of routine, I felt unmoored and exhausted trying to keep up with everything, but there were a few little pros to it all. (We’ve a café in the building now, for one!)
There’s a lot to be said for appreciating the smaller, not necessarily finer, details of the everyday mundane. Here’s to another list of open-hearted joys, the moments that’ve woven poetry to my days, this week.

一. An afternoon spent working in a café, for once.
二. Deciding to take an evening walk, against my original wishes, and ending up bumping into Jonny’s friend and his dog, then meeting a pair of dog walkers, and enjoying a lovely impromptu conversation with strangers. It was lovely.
三. Settling into a temporary new office space with my colleagues and us all navigating feeling unmoored together. It’s been stressful, but we’ve had a barrel of laughs.
四. How it feels to know you have your favourite dish for dinner after a long day.
五. The sound of the breeze careening through trees.
六. A good ol’ morning debrief. Eddie and I work opposite schedules, so we love to trade work/evening stories in the morning over a cup of tea in the garden.
七. Checking off a few more wedding admin tasks.
八. The best girls’ day with Elodie, who was visiting from Seoul. We ate bottomless carbonara at Agrodolce in London, strolled in the sunshine with lime and sodas, sipped spritzes in Seven Dials Market, and enjoyed the mother of all catch-ups.
九. Winning a Poppi keyring at work! (I love it so much!)
十. The tea and biscuit I always have after the mid-week top-up clean.
