Well hello October. Where on earth did you come from? Autumn this year feels like a cherished, decades-old comforter, a safety blanket or favourite chunky knitwear, dug out from the suitcase of ‘seasonal clothes’ after a long summer. Of course, much of it is because we’ve had a rainstorm in the UK and every day is a washout at the moment. As ever, it means drawn out mornings in bed – cups of tea or coffee hastily brewed so I can slip back under the duvet for a moment more. It’s been a tangle of grey days spent drifting about the house in folklore-mired knitwear; lo-fi playlists whispering out from a very-modern-indeed Google Home. And, it’s been evenings of cosy candle-making, fragrance alchemy, the most fun I’ve had in ages.

Autumn, I’ve been waiting for you.

Celebrating Mid-autumn Festival

Thursday 1st October marked 2020’s Mid-autumn Festival. It’s always been one of my favourite Chinese holidays, often marked by gathering as a family for a big ol’ feast. We’d usually then share mooncakes, a rich snack made from lotus seed paste. As kids, my brother, sister and I would rush out to the garden afterwards, bundled up in little parka jackets – mine with a Hello Kitty patch sewn on the front – to view the full moon and play with our plasticky lanterns. This year, it was much more quiet. Our wider family is pretty big, far bigger than the rule of six allows. So, we had dinner just the four of us. Exchanged a few voice notes and pixelated nighttime photos. And, we’ll look forward to next year’s, when my nieces and nephew can visit and we can sink into the childlike magic and curiosity of these festivals.

Prepping for a new little project

Whilst my freelance copywriting business is quiet, for obvious reasons, I’ve been squirrelling away at Yet Another Project. Do I ever rest? … No. But I’m so excited for this little project. My sister and I are having so much fun, and it’s really nice to do something that isn’t online for once. I’ve felt quite disenchanted with the online world this year, but it’s been the best to step back, get back to my own cosy little corners of the web and soul-search a little.

Spooky season in Animal Crossing: New Horizons!

This week, I’ve had so much fun exploring the ACNH fall update. Autumn – and Halloween, particularly – is one of my favourite seasons in the game, and it looks so beautiful in New Horizons. The update has brought lots of new DIYs and dailies to do, and I am absolutely here for the pumpkin farming! If you’re also playing ACNH, come and join my Discord server! We chat all day long about Animal Crossing and more, share Dodo Codes for online play, and generally help each other out.
