Sundaze 284: Little festive traditions
Happy Sundaze, my loves!
After making time to pen last weekend’s post and feeling so much more like my old self, I wanted to do the same again this week. Sometimes keeping to tradition just works and perhaps I need these cosy little updates as much as you do?
I can hardly believe we’re into single digits for the big Christmas countdown! If I’m honest, I’ve really struggled with feeling festive this December. My boyfriend and I were lamenting this last Sunday during our breakfast date and we’re determined to make next December much more Christmassy. We both have a tendency to look far in the future and sometimes gloss over the present, and this year that was coupled with some big trips that took precedence over little festive things.

This week has felt undoubtedly fun though. I did a big Sunday reset that meant I started the week feeling fresh and ready to get back on track after the flu. I even started it in the office – I usually shy away from going in on Mondays – and it was just what I needed to get productive and start my week on the right foot. Next week will be devoted to festive fun, since I’ve actually managed to book it off work! We’ll be spending Christmas at my brother’s place, as he’s hosting for the very first time.
Your cervical screening reminder, from me
I popped to the GP for my cervical screening mid-week, so take this as your reminder to book yours if you’re due. A few years ago, a smear test showed abnormal cells in my cervix so I now have the ‘luxury’ of getting one every year instead of every three years. Even so, I’m grateful for this service, although I wish I’d originally timed mine to not fall every December – those doctors’ rooms are cold!

Our girls’ Friendsmas
My friends and I met up for our annual Friendsmas dinner this week. This is the third year we’ve done this together and I hope it stays a tradition forever! On Wednesday, we headed to one of our favourite local restaurants for a delicious meal and gift swap. Perhaps next year I’ll be able to host us, but until then this was a lovely, fuss-free way to celebrate what’s been a huge year for all of us, together.
Little festive traditions
We’ve just had our little pre-Christmas weekend and I got to thinking about the little traditions that we’re building. I wanted to write a post devoted to this, but it wouldn’t quite come together. Maybe that’s one for next year. I always love hearing about others’ Christmas celebrations and traditions, and I hadn’t thought too much about our own.
For instance, my boyfriend and I always go to the same local farm shop at the start of December to select a new bauble each. Then, we go home and put the tree up together while sipping hot chocolate and playing Christmas films. We also reserve the weekend before Christmas to make party food and have a cosy date night, after a day at a Christmas market. I already can’t wait to make more traditions in our new house next year.
