Sundaze 260: Visiting Berlin, homebody reset and summer bucket lists
Happy Sundaze, my loves!
As I write this, I’m feeling little out of sorts from having a short work week. Isn’t it bizarre how much time is a social and societal construct?! I wish I could slacken the line a little on how my weeks are set up but, gosh, old habits die hard and this Monday to Friday school-to-work schedule has gotten me good.
You know, I wasn’t even going to write a Sundaze at all this weekend. It was a plain, easy sailing sort of week and fortnight, and I began to worry that nobody needs more mundanity. But I sat and stared at a fresh page of my manuscript for ages and knew that writing something simple and conversational would be great for pulling me out of my writers’ funk.
A few days in Berlin!
My boyfriend and I visited Berlin for the very first time this week. It was a short trip, but a really valuable one. Our MO was to stay at the newly opened Locke at East Side Gallery hotel – the newest of the Locke group – and we had a great stay there. I just adore their concept, ethos and execution. It’s situated on the East Side Gallery, which is a really unique neighbourhood. We’d recommend it!

Aside from that, we’re both really big on exploring and soaking up history, of which Berlin has plenty. We visited monuments, memorials, museums and archives all about the WWII and Berlin’s past, all of which were thoroughly interesting and important – a sobering trip. As such, I of course do not have many photos to share, but I did just LOVE this trip for many reasons. Plus, this city is full of incredible vegan food!
A homebody reset
Returning home from Berlin midweek meant I felt out of sorts all week. (I feel like this is where ‘Sunday resets’ and weekly routines do no good!) I’m so used to my Sunday reset and work-week ritual that it felt hard to get back on track. Whenever this happens, I make a huge to-do list and slowly get back into things: laundry, a mini clean, lining up library book returns, package returns, & Chai orders to dispatch…

Excitingly, my tomato, courgette and aubergine plants are all thriving! I think it rained a lot while we were away, and my little vegetable babies are all the more happier for it. This weekend, I worked on some more natural fertilisers (made from banana peel) to feed the lil ones.
There’s nothing like travelling to make you appreciate home even more.
Summer bucket list-ing
The summer holidays have started for children in the UK, and it always gets me to thinking about what I’d like to do with the rest of the summer. Country walks, beer gardens, European city breaks and lakeside picnics all under out belt already, I think I’m getting better each year when it comes to making the most of seasonal activities. A comment from reader Zania last week make me consider what else I’d like to add to my summer bucket list. Perhaps…
- Outdoor cinema
- Ceramics painting with my girls
- A London day out
- Beach day!
- A day with Milo in Brighton
- Harvesting some courgettes
- Visiting a castle in England
