Happy Sunday! I genuinely can’t believe we’re back here already, thanks in part to the shorter week but also because spring is absolutely here and it’s pushing ‘fast forward’ on everything. Well, at least it is for me! I can barely pull apart the days and evenings from one another and I *think* that’s because I decided to take everything one step slower this week. Whether that’s a workout that I stretched out for a delicious 90 minutes instead of the usual 60 or so (I slowed the tempo down on almost all of my reps and also got a longer cardio session in), or that I deliberately took a day off to just hang out, it’s felt good. I noticed that Mercury being in retrograde completely messed up my happy vibes and made a few tweaks to counter that. Let’s recount the week in hand, shall we?

Slowing down

Yesterday I spent my day pottering: I read a lot, worked out, watched some Netflix and sourced some inspiration for a couple of projects. It reminded me just why I went freelance: to embrace living for once, instead of working to live and living to work.

The momentum of new year positivity and aspiration has finally begun to dull itself down now, and though I did have a mini meltdown earlier in the week, I’m kind of into it now. After reading Rebecca’s post about her time off work last month, I’ve been inspired to do the same. I’m currently considering taking all of June off work and I’ll probably also be producing limited content for the blog. Freelance life is oh so rewarding and having just completed my books (accounts) for the last financial year, I’m extremely grateful for everything freelance gives me. However it is mentally and physically draining, and you can’t pour from an empty jug, as they say, so a little time off is how I’m hoping to fix that.

A Swedish massage + eyelash extension appointment

I wholeheartedly believe that self-care goes beyond the literal care of yourself, but sometimes a girl gotta do what a girl gotta do. Something that I’m slowly but surely learning is that you have to maintain a level of wellness, whether that’s by practising yoga, going out for drinks with the girls, taking your dog for a walk or treating yourself to a fresh weekly manicure.

I’m a strong advocate for all of those things but when I considered my own self-care checklist, I was failing to tick any of them off. My nails were chipped, lips chapped, my face felt tired and my shoulders were knotted beyond belief. I couldn’t even tell you the last time I’d been to see my masseuse or paid for any sort of aesthetic care. So, I spoke to one of my friends from Barre class who is a fully qualified massage therapist and booked in for a 60-minute Swedish massage on a Thursday afternoon. And I feel SO much better for it! Totally getting these monthly, if my budget allows it.

The following day, I also went to get a fresh set of eyelash extensions applied. Long-term readers of Daisybutter will know that I get these applied twice throughout the summer and then proceed to only wear eyebrow filler, concealer (if needed) and lip products until September. And here it begins! This time I booked in with Megan of STYLASHLEE who did an incredible job with a set of 3D lashes. Find her here on Instagram.

Gudetama x Shoryu Ramen Pop-Up

Louise and I managed to catch the Gudetama pop-up at Shoryu Go yesterday! I’m not entirely sure how I missed the opening of the pop-up but I’m glad I caught it before it closed today. The Gudetama menu is short but sweet, offering two options across starter, main, dessert and drink, which essentially offers a meat version and then a veggie option. I of course ordered the veggie option, only for them to bring me the meat one and ask me ‘if I’d eat it anyway’. Um, no? So strange. Once the mix-up was corrected though, my ramen was delicious as I always expect from Shoryu and the mango tea and cheesecake were perfect meal-finishers.

We then took a little stroll around Soho before popping to Seven Dials for a peruse of Stanfords, Lululemon and a general London photowalk. Always good for the soul!

The Carly Rowena Get Gorgeous Guide

After months of dithering, I picked up Carly’s GG Guide over the Easter break and have finished Week One of the workouts! I’d wanted to pick up the guide long before I joined the gym and then kept putting it off because I was enjoying working out on ‘my own’ so much. However now that I’m 5 months in to my gym journey, I’ve found her guide is an awesome investment either for using alone when I’m not sure what to train, as a structured workout ‘finisher’ (I add her workout to the end of my cardio and strength training regime), as well as for lazy days where I simply can’t be bothered to drive to the gym. If you’re considering picking it up, I must say it’s my current fitness obsession!

Tartle is on Instagram!

Lastly in this week’s round-up, I’ve finally created a dedicated Instagram account for my copywriting business (a.k.a. my full-time gig)! You’ll now be able to find us at @tartlecopywriting where I’ll be sharing notes from my office, the latest available services and other snippets of inspiration. I’m hoping it’ll become not only a way of promoting the business, but a space to share resources and all of that good stuff.

Follow us at @tartlecopywriting

I’d be over the moon if you could join me there and also keep me in mind if ever you or your workplace needs a writer. I’m currently booking new clients, so whether you’re an Etsy seller, small business owner, creative or fellow start-up, get in touch here and let’s make some magic together!
